C-sections

4th C-Section (& Tubal Ligation)

Anyone had more than 3 sections?

Did your Dr.'s express any concern about your 4th? Mine have yet to mention any concerns yet I am still relatively early on to be discussing that, they don't tend to discuss my surgery until closer-to that time frame.

All of my surgeries have been less than two years apart from one another, so I'm not sure in terms of tissue what I am dealing with, as my most recent C-Section was only in April, and this 4th would be in July, just over a year apart.

Just a little concerned considering in my state, a c-section is more or less my only choice, unless I want to relocate and get new doctors and try for a VBAC, but I'm too nervous for that.

Re: 4th C-Section (& Tubal Ligation)

  • I've only had three c sections ( my last this past Aug) but at that time my OB made it very clear it would be my last. I had no problems with pregnancy but when they went in, there was a window in my uterus. At the time my OB said this was my last kid. She repeated it again when she visited me the next day and again at all my follow up appts.

So my thinking is if your OB didn't say anything during your last one you should be fine. They may say something during this one like mine did but I would hope if there were concerns they would have told you.

Also, I don't think any doctor would let you do for a VBAC after 3 sections. Good luck to you!
  • Like the PP, I'm only on my third right now but basically my doc and I have agreed that this needs to be my last. Not b/c of any obstetrical issues (at least that we know of) but b/c of my own health issues during this pregnancy (I've had severe thyroid issues and lots of other problems). But I think if your doctor didn't mention it last time, and hasn't already mentioned it this time, you are probably in the safe category although I imagine they may take a few extra precautions at the end to be sure that you and baby are both doing well. I do think you should bring up the subject at your next appointment even if it is early. Ask if there is anything you can do to prepare or to minimize any risks.

  • This will be my 3rd in 3 years and my ob said this should be it. I'm getting a tubal with this one.

  • No doctor in their right mind would let you VBAC after having 3 c-sections.

  • Oh I don't want a VBAC, I've just heavily researched them out of curiosity.I am not against VBACs, I like the idea of them, but I have a great rapport with my doctor and nurses, as well as the hospital I've had my prior c-sections at and wouldn't want to re-establish a whole new trust and relationship with new doctors, that scares me.

I guess my reason for posting was because I'd seen a few posters on here mention #4 being the kinda almighty dreaded number for c-sections. Although this is definitely my last one, I'm just hoping it's not full of complications.

  • I have only had 2 but had a tubal done with my second. Now I'm hoping 2 get a reversal or IVF and have a third. It makes me concerned having another csection also but it sounds like plenty of the girls have had a third and fourth with no problems and I agree with them. If your dr would have had concerns, seems like they would have told u after the third c-section. I think u will b fine. Good luck and congratulations!!!!
  • thank you :) good luck to you, too! sounds like you've got quite a plan. best wishes.

  • I'm on my 3rd csection (all close together- I will have 3 under 3 yrs old) & my dr said #4 is absolutely fine, no prob at all
  • I had my 3rd CS and asked the doctor before and during my c to check for me.
She said everything looked good and could go for a 4th. See siggy for ages. Never had any sort of issues with pregnancies but kids try to come out of my hip rather than the right area. ;)
