Baby Names

Reality Bites

So I'm loving Lelaina as a first name for a girl. (Like Winona Ryder from Reality Bites) NN Lainey. But I'm worried it's a little out there? I usually go for traditional names (Matthew is our boys name) but I've loved this name for so long... Any reactions? I'd love a little feedback...

  • I am kinda diggin it! It isn't like so weird people would think you were crazy, but it's not yet another Elise or Olivia. I say go for it.

  • My son has one in his Kindergarten class.
  • Thanks ladies! It's pronounced "le-lay-na". I just think it's so beautiful and the best part is my husband LOVES it! So much so that he really wants a girl so that we can use the name ASAP! Also nice to hear that someone out there has heard of an actual person with the name.
  • I like it!

  • Sounds Hawaiian to me. NMS but I would also struggle with pronunciation.

  • I like it.
  • Lelaina is pretty. I googled it but couldn't find origin or meaning. Anyone know?
  • OMG, OP, you must be my long lost twin!  That has been my girl name for YEARS.  When I saw the title of you post, I was hoping this discussion would be about Lelaina.  Over the years, I have shared the name with some friends, and I must admit, no one really liked it, but I didn't care.  I would go for it if I were you!

  • I've loved the name for years also! But I've never ran it by anyone. I've been afraid that people would tell me they didn't like it and then I'd feel silly using it. I have to admit I've had second thoughts now that I'm actually pregnant but my husband and I have decided we aren't sharing our names until LO arrives so if it's a girl everyone will just have to deal with it. The way I see it people name their kids crazy things these days and really it's just Elena with an L so what's so bad about that? We are going to go with it! That's for all the support!!
  • I think it seems kind of hard to pronounce and spell. Hopefully your last name isn't too complicated, and the nn is easy enough. After all the negative feedback over my daughter's name options, we were very secretive about #2's name, and it was much better that way! Though I still liked to get feedback from forums like this one (just not from family and friends).
  • Last name Quinn so it will probably be Lelania Marie Quinn
  • Go for it, if you and DH love it, there is no question  \:D/
