October 2012 Moms

"Eh, Eh, Eh!!!"

Emma is doing this constantly now when she wants us to do something or give her something. It is driving me nuts. Of course if you don't give her what she wants this leads to the dreaded tantrum. Any other tots out there constantly going "eh, eh, eh!?" Feel free to complain about anything else your kid is doing to drive you nuts this week.

  • Ours is more of an "uhhhhhh". Especially when she wants in the pantry to snack. She always wants to be eating!

Emma too! The pantry & the fridge! She can have melt downs in front of the fridge and then I open the door for her and she just looks inside and smiles! Like ohhh pretty lights.

  • @chricast, when I saw your post title, I thought you were talking about MY kid!  DS just started this maybe a few days ago - the "eh eh eh" and the "uhhhh".  It hasn't driven me nuts yet, and he is pretty good at not throwing tantrums even if I don't run to his rescue.  Most of the time he is able to problem-solve on his own when given some time.  Of course I'll help him out if it is something he can't do himself.

I am a bit relieved to see that other kids are doing this.  DS still has ZERO words, and I was worried that he is preferring "eh eh eh" and "Uhhh" over using words.

Plus, he has figured out how to pour milk out of most of his "spill proof" cups, very annoying to see him pouring expensive, soy milk out on himself and the floor.
DS learns that if he flips his straw cup upside down and BANG the straw on the floor, he can get the water to drip out - and he will end up with a puddle of water on the floor so he can play with it.  So now I can't even leave the water straw cup where he can reach, or I'll have a flood in my condo.

He does this with his milk sippy cups too but since we only do milk at mealtimes in his highchair, either me or DH will put a stop to it.

  • DS too, we get to my parents in the morning (my mom watches DS during the day) and he eh eh eh because he wants a snack or he wants the TV on... Drives me insane!

Or he will "yell" at my mom because the remotes are on the table and she runs over to put them away.

I'm not sure who is annoying me more, the fact that DS grunts to get stuff or my mom listens to him

  • Totally not alone.  L doesn't have any words (except maaaaybe "dis" for "this" when he points to something and says "hi" every now and again) and so our household is a lot of "eh eh eh" and pointing to things.  I just try and remember that at least he is pointing so I know what he wants -- even if I'm not going to give it to him.  Usually it is my iPhone, wanting to turn the lights on or open the cabinets.  Everywhere we go he points out light sources.  Future electrician I tell you.

  • Yes! The whining is non-stop! I usually try not to react in any way, but it's flipping hard. Last night I left the living room for 2 seconds to grab a beverage, and J had a tantrum. When I came back in I calmly sat in the recliner and invited her to join me. She laid on her back screaming for a solid 10 minutes. K kept looking at me, then her, then me, like she was saying "aren't you going to do something about this?" Eventually J got up and went about her business.

  • yes, Wesley and the whining is driving me bonkers. I have been home for the last two days with him with a fever, this morning his fever was gone and he was fine, so I took him to daycare and went to work.  Daycare just called me that he has refused all beverage and food so far and that he now has goop coming out of his eyes so they asked me to pick him up.  Great, now I'm getting as much work down while the Hubby is home with him so I can take the next two days off with Wesley.  I'm hoping he doesn't have pink eye.

  • Oh honey. Even WITH words, it's happening here. Uuuh! Uh! Uh! Uh! Uuuuuhhhhhhh!!! Dat! Dat! Dat!

Pretty sure that translates into "yes mommy, I want you to hide in your bedroom and cry!"

  • E does this too. Usually he's polite about something he wants first. He'll smile and point and do this little feet shuffle thing that is totally adorable. So if I don't respond or tell him no, he continues on with the whining.

It doesn't bother me much. Possibly because my 3 year old's whining is about 1000 xs worse.

  • Yes! Except with Celia, it's "More" . Nonstop. I have no clue what she wants more of. I think she just likes to see if we'll hand her stuff and then flip right out if we don't.

Us too. DS2 is SO LOUD though. And it's "eh eh eh" all the time...especially during dinner. Even though he's eating the same things we are, he wants the food off our plates. I told him he needs to start using words like "more" because I'm so tired of "eh eh eh!"
