Severe(ish) Diastasis Recti

My daughter is almost 2 and I am still having issues from the diastasis recti I experienced while pregnant.  My abdominal muscles separated easily 8 inches or more during my pregnancy and are still 1-2 finger-widths apart depending where I check.  Because of this I have back pain, hip pain, and it seems to be easier for me to injure muscles around my back and groin due to lack of core support.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Can it be corrected without surgery?

Re: Severe(ish) Diastasis Recti

  • Check out the Tulper Technique- google it.
Also, a splint will help! I've not experienced this myself, but I have worked with some clients who've had it.

  • Does a splint really help or just give a false sense of security?

  • It does help. It supports the muscles a d helps guide them back into place.
See if you can get your Dr to write you an rx for physical therapy with a therapist who specializes in pelvic rehab/womens health.

  • I will definitely have to ask her about that....and dig out my c-section splints again.  Thanks for your help!

  • No problem! Hope you can get things healed soon!

  • I had a 2 finger separation and found a small workout video on YouTube by Lindsay Brin (I think that is how her last name is spelled). It is specific to helping heal diastasis. So tough to deal with because you can't do traditional sit ups. Also like PP said, Tupler is an other good one. I found an article on the Fit Pregnancy website with Tupler moves. Good luck! It is a slow process but you can improve it. Mine is near closed.
