Taking estrace vaginally

Has anyone taken estrace vaginally? I am starting another round of clomid tonight and am supposed to take estrace vaginally starting next week. This may sound dumb (and sorry if tmi) but I am really squeamish about this - I don't even use tampons. I am wondering if the pill is going to fall out etc. TIA for any responses!

Re: Taking estrace vaginally

  • I've never had to take estrace, but all my progesterone was vaginally. It's NDB actually inserting it, but you will most likely need a panty liner because the stuff tends to drip out constantly. Don't stress it, it's easy, and no the pill won't fall out, just make sure you follow the diagram (there should be a picture in the box) and insert it up near your cervix.

  • So, yeah. Such a fun thing. I recommend what I was recommended to do, stick them in tip of tampon and use that get it up there. I know you said you don't use tampons, but super easy. To me this method less messy and more sanitary. I find the Pearl ones, regular type, seemed to hold them

That's weird, I just heard at the REs office today, you're not supposed to use a tampon with vaginal suppositories because the tampon can actually absorb the meds you need. Doesn't the estrace come with an actual applicator? They don't expect you to just cram it up there with your fingers, do they?  /:)

  • Mrs C - no, it didnt come with an applicator and there is no diagram! But thanks for the responses - very helpful and I will try not to over think it!

Btw, am I the only one that freaks out when they read the info that comes with prescriptions?! Apparently taking estrace long term can increase your risk of certain cancers - ugh. I am only planning to do another couple cycles of clomid before moving on to injectibles so hopefully it will be ok (I am assuming I will have to take estrace again next month with the clomid but maybe not??)
  • From what I know, the estrace is a little hard pill that has never come apart when I've used w tampon so it has nothing to absorb. I have heard not to use with progesterone, but my estrogen levels were insane high in each cycle, so I know it works for my type of pills. Maybe different forms of pills shouldn't be used?

  • Oh, and yeah, I keep thinking g same thing... Long term use.. What about intermittent use for like a month or two? Does it raise risk over ling term? Or no added risk? Lol, the things we do!!!
