Pediatrician rec - CHOP

Hello ladies!  I am expecting my first child in April and I am looking for a pediatrician in the Havertown area. My two choices right now are CHOP Springfield or Haverford (we live in the middle of the 2). Does anyone have any experience with either of these practices? Thanks!

Re: Pediatrician rec - CHOP

  • I haven't dealt with their primary care office in Springfield, but if it's anything like visiting a specialist there, then you are in good hands! I go to the South Philly office--talk about awful wait times, but I don't want to change PCP! I have heard good things about the Springfield office, always a smooth visit to the specialists in Springfield. Hope that helps!!
  • We used to go to the CHOP Haverford - had really good experiences with Dr. Allen. They are great but busy (but what pedi isn't?!??)

  • @MamaAllison, Dr. Allen was on vacation with her family last summer and was in a helicopter accident. She hasn't come back to work yet, last time I was there they said she was still recovering. I loved her, she was our pedi. I still go yo CHOP Haverford, but we see Dr. Gwiescz and I really like him

  • I am a family nurse practitioner so I am partial to np's-- you will often get a more conservative and well rounded approach--- at least that's what I see in the adult world-- no matter what provider type , I would look at the state licensing board and make sure they've been practicing at least 5 yrs -- I know we were all new once but for the delicate balance of infancy you want someone w experience -- for sick visits it's not a biggie to see different providers but you should generally get the same provider for well visits --- aside from all that I looked for office w convenient hours and decent parking ! and don't forget you can always change.. listen to your gut , and if u don't jive w someone then find a new provider .
  • I'm a rather laid back mom but my chop local office during the winter stresses me out. Every kid has a cold to them and don't even bother calling if your kid hasn't even sick for 4 days. Friends of mine have the same thoughts about their branch. Something to think about.
  • We go to CHOP Media which has shared night and weekend hours with Broomall and Drexel Hill and we couldn't be more pleased.  We have been seen by Pediatricians and NPs alike and don't have any complaints.

This definitely isn't true at Haverford.  I have never had to wait even a day for a sick visit.  In fact, I was taking my DS for a physical the same day my DD developed a horrible cough.  The nurse just heard her coughing and asked if I wanted the dr to take a look at her as well.  No waiting around either, we are always seen quickly

I'm confused. What's wrong with this approach? There's nothing they can do for a cold.

It was a kidney infection last time that ended up in an er visit. I have switched peds since then. Happy to hear all aren't like this.
  • If you dont mind me asking which pediatrician do you see at the South Philly Office?  Are you pleased at least with them, even after the long wait times?
