Not sure what's going on my period is late and not just by a day but by 5 days

Hi everyone I was wondering if any of you who have regular cycles have ever been extremely late with AF arriving per your usual cycles?. Usually I have some type of spotting indicating that my period is on it's way however when it was due to come it never showed up.Since my period's no show I took a pregnancy test which said negative I'm so confused as to what's going on I know that cycles can be affected by various things but I'm freaking out because I've never had this happen to me before. I go to Shady Grove so I have a nurse and put a call into her about all of this who knows when she will get it because her e-mail said she's out of the office. I was wondering would Shadygrove recommend you to come in for a pregnancy beta blood test? or would they just keep telling you to test on your own, or do you think they wouldn't put much thought into you being extremely late. I'm a worrier so part of me just wants to go to Patients first and get a pregnancy blood test. What would all of you do if in this situation?any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know it can be frustrating to have a cycle be "off" but I don't think 5 days is incredibly late. I might worry if you get to ten days and are still getting BFNs at home.

Sorry you're dealing with this. Do you have any idea when you ovulated? What is your average LP? If it were me, I'd probably wait a few days then test again. If the HPT is negative, the beta probably would be too. If it went on a crazy amount, then I'd see if my RE could straighten it out with some Provera. Good luck!

Yeah, it's extremely frustrating because I'm not currently on a medicated cycle that could throw it off last time it was 5 days late I was taking progesterogene so that of course threw it off and then it eventually showed up. I know it's not incredibly late if it's not here by next Monday I think I'm going to investigate what's going on further.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to hold off and test again in a couple of days. It's not too too late so I'm going to give it some time. It's just late which doesn't ever happen to me so I'm just a little thrown off. I got benched in December from doing my third IUI because of a cyst and have been waiting for my period so that I could hopefully start IUI# 3  so I'm hoping that my cyst went away  during my last cycle and isn't causing me and further issues. I don't even know can ovarian cysts make you miss a period?

Just because you tool a test and it came up negative doesn't mean that you aren't pregnant. Some women have a low hormone level and it doesn't show up on the test until a few days later. I would try in a few days again and if not then go see a doctor. Good luck!!!

I would say wait it out. If nothing happens in the next 5-6 days, call your Doc.I am usually extremely consistent in my cycle. But this past cycle, I was a full 4 days early! Color me unprepared, but these sort of things happen from time to time.

I would say wait a couple more days and then if nothing see if they can get you in to speak to a nurse.  The last two times this happened to me my thyroid levels went wonky and I was 5-6 days late both times, so it could just be a random weird cycle, or a change in your hormones. 

Hopefully your hormone levels are just too low to turn a test!  Good luck and let me know what happens.

What cycle day are you on?  Do you have any idea when you ovulated, based on charting and/or OPKs?   Rule of thumb on TTGP is to test once a week until AF arrives or you get a positive test, otherwise call the doctor if you get to 60 days.  FWIW, my cycles, pre-meds, were typically 32-35 days, but I had one random 50 day cycle and another random 27 day cycle, sometimes a wonky cycle happens.  Sorry for the frustration!

I just wanted to add that if you leave your nurse at SG a voice mail and she isn't working that day, another nurse in the practice will check her voicemails and call you back.  I've had that happen before.

Also, are your nurse's initials DB by any chance?

From what I have read, a cyst can delay AF because it outputs progesterone. I'm not sure if that is every cyst or how common it is.

@calindi maybe mine is hiding with yours! If AF decides to take her sweet time this will be the second time since starting thyroid med that this has happened!

My thyroid medicine has made this happen to my cycles 2 times in the last year.  Make sure that when you talk to your nurse that they go ahead and do another thyroid blood test.  It was how we knew that my thyroid meds needed changing again...  Good luck!

@johnsonscharosch coincidentally I'm due to have my TSH checked since I've been at a new dose for 6 wks...maybe I have to increase yet again?! @calindi, she's still hiding! I'm feeling cramps but that's about it. I'm going to take a UPT in the am and then call the REs office to see how to proceed...
