Rhodiola

Has anyone taken this while BFing? I've read that it's supposed to be a great herb to take for ADD. I used to be on Vyvance, but stopped taking it when we started TTC our DD (she's 14 months now). Not being able to take Vyvance really affects my work so it would be awesome to be able to try Rhodiola, but I can't find any information about taking it while BFing. Anything else that any of you have found to take for ADD while BFing?

Also, it's also been noted for helping women with fertility issues. Wanted to mention that in case anyone wanna to look into it for that.

Re: Rhodiola

  • I haven't taken it, but I also used to take Vyvanse. DD is almost 1, and our pedi gave me the go ahead to start back on the Vyvanse after 1 year. He said there shouldn't be effects on DD at this point, especially since I'll mainly be nursing morning and night. It might we worth discussing with your pedi. I've been off mine for 20 months now, and it's been miserable at work! Good luck!

  • Thanks for the response @Myaflowers. My DD still nurses 4-5 times a day on a regular day and more than that when she is sick or teething so I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it while nursing. In general, I'm trying to switch to a more natural lifestyle so I'd love to find a natural solution to Vyvance. My husband is also ADD (well, ADHD) and he's about to try Rhodiola instead of Vyvance, but I was just curious is anyone has taken it while nursing. Unfortunately, there aren't many studies of most types of herbs while pregnant and/or breastfeeding.

Good luck to you as well and congratulations on almost a year of nursing!

  • I work in a psychiatric office, and there is some limited evidence that fish oil can help with ADHD. That may be worth trying, too.
