Tonsils and adenoids out?!

Today at speech therapy ds speech therapist recommended we go see an ent for his tonsils and adenoids to see if they need to be removed to hep with his speech delay. Anyone have any experience with this?! I don't Mind doing it to help my son but I admit I am a bit nervous about it

Re: Tonsils and adenoids out?!

  • Son had his adenoids out and tubes in together when he was 2, now he's scheduled next month for tonsils and he's 3 now. He has severe snoring, sleeping and eating issues and talks like his nose is plugged and also always sounds like darth vader. He gets sick every second week and I CANNOT WAIT! I'm nervous too but this is the best thing for him. Good luck!

  • DD had hers out at 4. She snored like a man, got an ear infection every single time she would get a cold, and once the tonsils were out- BAM! No more snoring the 1st night. She also started sleeping through the night which leads me to believe she had sleep apnea. My only hesitation with getting them out at 2 is their communication skills aren't the best so they couldn't tell you if something was wrong or hurting. DD also fought me like a wild animal at first when we had to give her the pain meds (I think it tastes awful and burned). Eventually we were able to reason with her and explain to her the medicine kept her from hurting, but I don't know if you would be able to explain that to a 2yr old.
