Super Frustrated!

hello ladies I haven't really post it on here much. I am 17 weeks this Thursday and sadly because a multitude of insurance issues I have not seen a doctor yet. I had a scheduled appointment yesterday and was very excited to finally find out if things are going good in there. But as it turns out my brand new primary doctor did not send the referral I mean to go to my OB. I've been waiting in the lobby I tried to call my primary and was put on hold for 30 minutes waiting to talk to the referral specialist. Who got online and seriously told me she had not done it because she didn't know how! I sent all day back and forth between the two doctors on the phone trying to figure out what all the fuss was about. My primary doctor said that they needed all this crazy paperwork and hospital records from my past pregnancy to just be able to do a referral. Sadly my new OB has never worked with my insurance before and so they had no clue what to do either. It resulted in me calling my insurance directly in finding out that my primary care physician was making it always more complicated than it needed to be. So now my referral is still floating I have no idea if so get it done and I have a new appointment set for next Monday. Has anyone else had major insurance issues with this pregnancy?I'm obviously very concerned about going to the doctor for the first time at 17 weeks. I did not have this much trouble with doctors & insurance during my last pregnancy.

  • Yikes, that sounds like a big headache.  No advice, but I'm sorry for your frustrations.

  • Why do you even need a referral? Do you need to see a specialist OB? I just looked at what clinics accepted my insurance and called to make an appointment. No referrals needed.

  • this'll be accept my insurance but I'm on Medicare and not a lot of places use Medicare. Apparently there is some new law and the fact that Medicare patients have to have a referral to see a specialist in an obi is considered a specialist. my primary is trying to say that they need all these records and papers just to do the referral and my insurance says it that's not true. So now my OB's office is going to try to do the referral them self and send it directly to my insurance.
  • Referrals are such a hassle. I can imagine your frustration! Hang in there. I hope you get seen soon.
