Vacation with LO - time change question

We are going to Hawaii in a few weeks and instead of being excited I am stressing out about it. One thing I can't decide on is what to do about the 3 hour time change. They are 3 hours behind which means she'll be wanting to sleep at 4:00 and wake at 3:30-4:00. Should I just keep her normal schedule or should I try to keep her up later?

Re: Vacation with LO - time change question

  • We are going to Las Vegas in 2weeks and will be dealing with the same thing. I think I'm going to try to keep her up later! Probably starting at home the day before we leave. I don't want to be getting up at 4am... If the trip us longer than a few days I think it's worth trying to move her schedule. I'm just going to try to keep DD out in the sun and noise as late as possible and hope for the best.

  • We are traveling to California soon (2 hour change) and I am planning on adjusting his schedule a little each day to hopefully get him on CA time. We are spending a few days out there before attending a wedding, and I am planning to bring him to the wedding, so I'm hoping that he will be able to stay up a little later by then. We also have a later return flight, and think that he will do better with that if he's used to staying awake a little later. But our guy is very adaptable, and sleeps well, so I don't think it will much of an issue for us. How does your LO do with sleeping normally? Don't be stressed, I'm sure that you will have a great trip!
  • No advice. Just wanted to say I'm jealous that you're going to Hawaii. I hope you all have a wonderful time there!!

  • Second what @Steamboat1679 said. We've done the 2 hr time change a few times as well. She more or less adjusted herself after a couple days. We don't have a really strict schedule at home either (similar times, but it is often earlier or later depending on how she napped and when she starts to get tired), so I just watched for the same cues while we were on vacation.

  • I am just back from Australia with LO. I recommend to get LO in the sun the day you arrive and they will adjust tor time change a lot faster and easier than you can imagine. Our time change was 19hours and it tool my LO a day to adjust. It was far easier and less stressful than I imagined.
