What are you going to get done today?

Not sure if this will work with you ladies but I am going to try it and invite you to play. I learnt this very simple technique at a yoga class I took where at the beginning and end of the yoga class the instructor would say these things as we did our breathing exercise.

So we all know we are getting close ( heck some of us are already there) and we all have petty stuff to still do but can't seem to get to it. If you had only today and without any pressure there was just one thing, even if it was a tiny thing to do what would you get done today? It could be something as simple as, I'm going to wipe the dust off my bedside table lamp or make an appointment for a facial. Something you have on your list that's easy to do but just don't get to for various reasons.

Second part, how will you reward yourself for getting it done? A small treat? A gif party maybe? Or perhaps 5 extra mins of sleep?

I'll start- I am going to arrange all the baby books I received as gifts on the empty shelf I set aside for LOs library. It's going to take less than 10 mins. Once I am done I am going to reward myself with watching the dvr recording of HIMYM that I missed last night. Oh and I will also add a gif to this post once I am done as way if being accountable to this commitment. I have been putting this off for at least a month.

Any takers?

  • I'm going to do the dishes that have been sitting there for the past three days. Afterwards, I will make myself a yummy banana/chocolate smoothie and watch criminal minds.

  • I am going to get something that I made for the nursery printed.

Oh so we can hold you accountable for that you need to come back here and confirm once it's done. A pic of the smoothie wins you brownie points!

I am going to get a pedicure and to reward myself i will get a Starbucks hot chocolate afterwards!

    Love this game! ;)

Ok a pic of the Starbucks hot choc closes the deal :-)
  • I'm trucking my pregnant arse across town by bus for an ultrasound this morning - it's a 90 minute trip, switching multiple buses in sloppy weather with cankles and all, lol! But when I'm done, I'm hitting Starbucks and snooping around at the mall for an hour afterwards, so yay!!
  • I am going to do the minimal amount of work required to not set off alarms with the bosses and eat a bunch of pad thai.

My reward, hopefully a clean house/dinner courtesy of my husband. If not, just sitting around this evening will be my reward regardless.

I don't know if I'm playing this game right, but I like it thus far!

  • I am going to make a easy to follow cleaning chart so I can keep my house clean without doing everything everyday and stressing about it. And maybe start doing it. Haha

I now want a smoothie, so that too shall be my reward!

  • I love this game!! I had a ton to do yesterday and I did...nothing.

So today, I am going to wash some of Wiggs' clothes and put them away. I'm also going to empty the trash can in our bedroom, and put clothes away that have literally been sitting out for a week.

My reward? An ultrasound at 2:30! I think it'll be my final one before her debut...yikes! But I'm excited to see her little face nonetheless.

I have such a long list today, but I'm going to finish my last three freezer meals and make a list of questions before my appointment with our prospective pediatric practice this afternoon.

To reward myself, I'll go get the manicure I've been putting off every day.
@SgrRay929 - ya know, I've been putting off a pedicure, too. You'd think that would be the first thing on our list because it's so enjoyable! (I HATE getting manicures so I don't ever get them, but pedicures are amazing.)

Gotta add that to my list!

  • I will call a carpet cleaning company to come clean our carpets before LO.

Then tonight DH and I will go out and get some organizing products to organize our cupboard that has all our Tupperware.

Then we will come home and sit :). And sleep :).
  • After work I'm going to fold the rest of the baby clothes that I washed last night and put them away. Then all the LO's clothes are officially washed and ready to go. I will reward myself with a bath using a Lush butterball bomb. :-)
  • Bikini wax, pedicure & get the dog's food (already bagged by meal &labeled) dropped off at the boarding facility she'll go to when the time comes. The latter will make it easier for our neighbors to drop her off on short notice. I'll treat myself with my once weekly latte :)

  • I'm going to do as little as possible at work so I don't stress myself out today. Asking for help doesn't work (because everyone is "busy with other things" while their desks are free of paperwork and I can't see a clear spot on my desk), soooo you screw me, I'll screw you! I'll save it all for YOU while I'm on maternity leave. Two can play at this game >:)

My reward? I haven't figured that one out yet.
Our baby boy passed to SIDS on 12/6/12http://oi59.tinypic.com/2vaebew.jpg

A gift from Heaven...Our Little RAINBOW arrived 1/31/14!

  • I have a ton to do today but most importantly I want to wash the crib bedding that was delivered yesterday and I want to clean out and scrub down the the fridge (inside and out). My reward will be watching last night's episode of RHOC.
Started TTC Summer 2008~ Started with RE Summer 2009~ October 2010 IUI-positive HPT & beta, c/p~ Natural pregnancy March 2013, m/c at 7 weeks, Trisomy 16~ Natural pregnancy June 2013 Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • I was supposed to be at work today, but after only sleeping about 1 hour last night (pregnancy insomnia is the WORST), I decided that was not going to happen.

So, I am going to try to clean up a bit, write some shower thank yous, and then entertain an electrician for a while. We had a very close call this weekend and I'm very thankful that our house did not burn down!

Oh, I may also try to cut/paint my toenails, but I'm really not sure if that's doable anymore.

My reward will be...not going to work I guess :)

  • My list is just way long right now, but I'm going to pat myself on the back for a. making it through a crappy morning (and terrible night's sleep) to get to work and b. ordering what I think is the last of the baby stuff we need for now from Amazon, c. also ordering a gift for a 1st bd party I have to go to this weekend and d. scheduling our car inspection for tomorrow.

Can my reward be going home now?  Lol.  I wish.  In general my reward for making it through another day of work is sitting around doing nothing at home once I get there, but then again that's why my list is so long! Most days though just a normal work day is enough to wipe me out totally.

  • I have to pack my hospital bag tonight. My DH was giving me crap about it last night, haha. only 19 days left before my EDD-yikes!

Haha, mine was bugging me last night, too.  I've started a list and started pulling things out like toiletries, etc.  But I am such a procrastinator when it comes to packing, always!  I also only have so many clothes that fit so really, I won't pack most of my clothes except post-partum jammies until that day and then I'll just grab what's clean.  I can't afford to have a perfectly clean pair of leggings sitting in a hospital bag for what could be three more weeks!  And of course you know DH expects me to pack his things, too!

I did also start pulling out some onesies/going home outfit options for LO last night, too.  Crazy!

I totally over did it yesterday and paid the price last night with some nasty pains. So today, I'm taking it easy. There is a big decal I would like to get put up in the nursery (Finding Nemo quote: Look you're really cute, but I have no idea what you're saying), and I would like to paint a few more flowers on the mural. Then I'm going to resume sitting on my ass and doing what bed rest patients are supposed to be doing.
That quote is the nursery is going to be adorable! Love it!

Same here. Very few things I fit comfortably in these days. I'm wearing the pj bottoms now that I really need to pack (love these work from home days!). Oh goodness, going home outfits. So not a big deal, but feels like such a big decision.
  • I also have a really long list of "To Do's" so this game will help me today. My one thing that must get done is: take my shopping list to Target, and buy everything on it.
Being on bed rest, I can't do much else because I also have a drs appt later today and then our last child birth class tonight. I don't wanna over due it today.
My reward for Target shopping trip, hmmm I'm thinking a cupcake or a smoothie.
  • Oh man, I have a lot to do today! I have my 36 week home visit at 2 with my midwife so I gotta do some cleaning up. I've been organizing/deep cleaning the last couple weeks so it's mostly just vacuuming and cleaning DHs petty messes, but still, I need to get on it now. I also got word that the pet barrier we ordered for my subaru came in today, so some car detailing and car seat installing may be happening as well. I should also be getting a couple packages in the mail today for water birth supplies, and being that I haven't picked up ANY diapers yet, I should probably get a pack of newborns and a big pack of size ones. I do have to pack a small hospital bag though just in case... I should probably get on that too. I have the next two days off and I fully plan on taking advantage of that!

Ok I did it! I even did the dishes I've been looking at for days! I was too hot for a hot chocolate so I switched my reward to a keurig iced tea much more refreshing! Here's a picture of the freezer dinners (only had enough beef for 2). Now I will watch another episode of my show while regaining energy to tackle a new task. Btw I love this post!!!

@BlueDot818 You deserve more than just iced tea for actually posting what you completed! Bravo! I am throwing a gif party in your honor! Enjoy the TV mama you deserve it!

Same here! We are pretty organized otherwise, but when it comes to packing, I am a serious slacker.
  • I got extra bedding and towels washed for anyone who might spend the night while we're at the hospital.  This morning, I went through toiletries that I can pack ahead of time to take and tonight I'll pack everything else I can take care of ahead of time.  I'm also making a list of everything else I will need to throw in at the last minute, and I'm writing out routines for DS for whoever stays with him.  Unfortunately, that's really long and I have to cover lots of stuff because we don't know who will be there when.

I'm rewarding myself with a salted caramel mocha from Starbucks.

  • I way over did it yesterday by taking DS to the childrens museum and really paid for it all night. So today I kinda took it easy.... Ran to the store to pick up a couple things, had lunch out with DS. Started a load of laundry and ran the dishwasher. When DH gets home we will finish packing our hospital bag and maybe bring our van to get cleaned so we can install the car seat. I will then attempt to make a "real" dinner for the first time in a while!

  • I am going to finish exercising, do homework and put away my laundry mountain (putting away laundry is my least fav chore). I would like my reward to be a pedicure if I can squeeze it in today.
  • Love this.   Lists have been my best friend over the past month!  I am planning to put a final coat of coral paint on the mirror for the nursery and writing another few thank you cards for shower gifts.
  • Actually kinda motivated today but organizing the house as much as I can, laundry, even though I'm only 35 weeks I think I will pack a few things that I will need for L & D. Unpack more boxes from our move & give my kids their bath. Reward: feeling like I actually accomplished something lol food right now sounds gross idk why.
  • This thread is awesome, love the idea of it being regular. Just finished work and folding all the baby clothes. As a bonus I made homemade baked mac and cheese during my lunch hour. Need to reward myself with a bath now. I feel crusty. But accomplished!
  • Well i did my work for the week for my online class and exercised and just made/ate a healthy lunch (egg, cheese, spinach on whole wheat bread so good). I think the pedicure may come before I tackle the laundry. I also still could eat more but cannot decide what I want- preggo problems.

So I am coming back to officially honor my commitment of setting up the baby books on the empty shelf. Pic proof attached.

We can make this thread a regular but this exercise only works if people come back to confirm they really did what they set out to do for the day. Remember it can be very small and not a laundry list and it needs to be the same thing as what you thought about and not I was going to do X but did Y.

So ladies- I will be gif gifting all those got done what they needed to and am waiting for the rest to come back and confirm they got it done. I'll set up a regular thread once every couple days for the rest of Jan.

  • I packed my hospital bag this morning. I think that counts. image ETA: I don't know about a reward for myself, maybe some donuts. :)
@DreamingBabies I wish I could get you a real doughnut- the douhgnut plant here in NYC has the dreamiest creme brulee doughnut but here are some virtual ones for now
