Trouble latching after tongue tie clip

Took DS to pedi today for a weight check. While I was there I had him checked for a tongue tie. Nursing has been a nightmare that almost brings me to tears. He has a shallow latch and pinches my nipple as hard as he can. Sure enough he had a tongue tie and we got it fixed. Nursed like a champ with no pain immediately after and at the start of the next feeding, which was also the beginning of some cluster feeding. During the cluster feeding he got lazy and is back to the shallow latch.

I know it's going to take some time to help him relearn how to latch now that he has more range with his tongue. Are there any exercises or thing I can do to help him figure out that his tongue moves more now to get a better /deeper latch? He will be 6 weeks old on Wednesday.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Trouble latching after tongue tie clip

  • My LO is on day 13 post SECOND tongue tie clip. Still having trouble latching. We are seeing a speech therapist to improve his lazy suck. He is 9.5 weeks.

  • No advice but I do have a question...

Do you know why it took so long to find it? I'm curious because I think my LO has one but at his 2 week appt the ped said he didn't see one. He's 7 weeks now..

He was born 4 weeks early, was jaundice and lost a lot of weight. Until now we werent focused on nursing as much as we were him just eating so we've done mostly bottle feeding so we knew how much he was getting each feed. An LC looked at him at 3 weeks because she thought she saw one but changed her mind. I have just been watching him since to see if he stuck his tongue out, which he never did.
