My girl wont nap!!

Over the past 2.5 wks my daughter hardly naps. I usually put her down at 12-she literally just talks and sings in her crib. By 4 she is melt down central from being so tired. She is clearly tired by 12 too, as she is cranky and rubbing her eyes. What gives? Anyone else?

  • Put her down at 12:30. Try that. It's what worked here when DD went on a nap strike.

I also will not get her out of the crib before 2:30 unless she is really, really crying. She has to take a 2 hour rest even if she won't sleep.

(That's going to be a rule in this house for many, many years. Well after nap ages even. We will be homeschooling but mama needs an hour break every day. lol. I have a friend who does this still and her kids are 8-13. One hour every afternoon after lunch they all go to their rooms and read/play quietly while she has time to sit in the quiet, read, etc.)

The days she doesn't nap, I put her to bed 30 minutes early.

  • Thanks! Im so paranoid her napping phase is "over"! Hopefully putting her down later helps. I guess she at least is happy when she is awake in her crib!

  • We do the same as @countrygrl5533. We won't get her out of her crib before 2:30 unless there is an actual emergency.
  • Maybe try putting her down a half hour earlier, if later doesn't work.  There are sometimes where DS is ready for a nap at 11 and will take a nice long nap, but he's overtired by noon and doesn't sleep as well then.  He usually goes down at around 11:30 and sleeps for 2 1/2 hours.

This seems to be how DD operates.  If we wait too long to put her down she won't sleep!

  • I would play around with her naptime...move it up, move it back and see if that helps.

I'm with some of the other ladies in that he stays in his bed unless he is hysterically crying.  My 5-year old still has an hour and a half of rest time on the weekends.  We will continue that with DS2.

I feel like 2 is still on the VERY early side of giving up naps and it's probably more of a nap strike than them giving them up.  If you stay consistent and keep the routine the same, most kids will fall back into their normal nap pattern after a week or two.
  • I think you have received good advice from all the other mommas so I just wanted to say sorry! Nap time is my rejuvenation time. <:-P
