I was 70% effaced forever with last one. Ask specifics from your doctor, they likely can describe what it means and if you should take any precautions or have any additional cervical checks.
effacement is the cervix stretching and getting thinner, dilation is separate. Do not need to worry please ask your dr for more information at your next apt. If they were concerned you'd still be there getting more tests, NST, ultrasound, something... right ...
edit to add effacement can take place over WEEKS especially with ftms
It means your cervix is thinning. My guess is that if you were at a higher risk to go into PTL, then they wouldn't have just sent you home. With B I walked around for 3 weeks at 2cm dilated and 50% effaced and it meant nothing about when I was going to go into labor.
I was just wondering. I have no experience with this stuff. I didn't get to ask questions. Kinda just was like your cervix thinned out.. Come back Thursday to get rechecked and don't work til then bye. Meanwhile I'm trying not to cry because they cathed me and my pee hole was on fire
When I had my second I was 100% effaced and 4cm dilated at 36 weeks. I was due end of January. When I asked my doc what to expect his reply was "a baby by st pattys day" I ended up delivering 10 days later
It could mean you are going to go into labor soon....or it could mean nothing. I would probably just call the nurse at your dr's office and ask for a more detailed explanation. Sometimes they can be more forthcoming with info than the actual dr's. Have them explain it until you feel comfortable with what is going on...although don't expect a concrete answer, ie, it means you will go into labor in 3 weeks 6 days and 2 hours!
My first question would have been why they're doing an internal exam at 29 weeks. Were you there for contractions? Other than that, everything you've been told already - ask until they explain in language you understand. It's not ok for them to tell you something about your body that they won't explain to you - that's their job.
