What to expect

What can I expect after having a D&C? With my first m/c I just miscarried naturally. I'm too far along for this one so I have a D&C scheduled for tomorrow. What can I expect pre surgery, post, recovery etc?

It really seems to vary a lot based on what I've read here, but for me, I had the procedure on a Wednesday (couldn't eat or drink after midnight on the previous day). The whole thing probably took about an hour but I was out and remember nothing. I stayed home from work the next day (Thu) and had minimal discomfort and period level bleeding. Then I went back to work on Friday (was a good distraction at the time) and felt ok physically. Then on Saturday, I had stronger abdominal pain and a low-grade fever. I called the doc worrying that I might have an infection, but the fever wasn't high enough to concern him (100, I think) so I waited it out and felt better on Sunday and the fever went away. I was back to work again on Monday.

I was told I would bleed for a few days to a week and ended up bleeding for two weeks, but the second week was much lighter.  I don't know if it makes a difference how far along you were in terms of the recovery process, but I was 9 weeks and 1 day. And my AF came about 5 weeks after the procedure and was pretty normal after that. Good luck to you and I hope you have a speedy recovery, physically and emotionally!
