BF frequency with a cold

DS has a cold and a double ear infection!! :(

I've noticed that he's been nursing less often and less in frequency. To the point I felt too full to nurse and had to pump yesterday afternoon. (although he is waking to eat atleast one extra time at night). I didn't know when it becomes an issue... He seems to still have the 6 wet diapers per day (minimumally). He's suffering a bout with the antibiotics and some diarrhea.

We started him on a probiotic to help with the upset tummy and diarrhea but he still seems to be eating less.

Re: BF frequency with a cold

  • How long has he been eating less? If it's onyl for a few days, I wouldn't worry about it. DS does the same thing. Just pump to make up for what he isn't eating, and try to offer as many extra feedings as possible. Good call on the probiotic. I take one myself, so DS gets his that way. Kind of a double-whammy ;)

  • When DS2 got RSV at 7 weeks, I pumped and bottle fed. It was less work for him. He may be too tired to nurse. Have you tried a bottle? Maybe just for two feedings a day, so he gets plenty of fluids.

  • He gets some here in there. While I'm at work/ to take the probiotic.
It's extra frustrating cause I'm getting a plugged duct after yesterday's poor nursing. :(
