C-sections

Nervous about preparation for c/s if go into labour before surgery date

My section probably won't be until around May 9 but I'm already worrying because we're a military family and live hours from family and close friends. The worry is that if I go into labour early, I'll have no one arranged to watch my two sons and hubby will end up not being able to come into the O.R. since children arent allowed. I guess the solution is to ask a neighbor or acquaintance to be my backup care in case labour starts before my scheduled section date but the whole thing just makes me uncomfortable. My family is 2.5-3 hrs away and close friends are about 1.5 hrs away (I've only lived in my current city for one year). Any advice from those in similar circumstances? TIA

  • Yep, you need a back up.  We are in the same boat.  We have detailed plans for the kids for the scheduled c/s but if she comes early, my aunt will be our back up until my mom or MIL can get here.

  • I went into labor early for 2 of my 3 c sections. Although nearby childcare is ideal, I still had a few hours before the c happened. My first was just the hospital was super crowded and I had to wait 5 hours in the hospital for an OR (baby was breech so I needed a c but not an immediate emergency). Second time was faster but by the time we called the doctor, drove to the hospital, waited for dr to arrive, got prepped, it was still a few hours. Maybe find a neighbor who could help just for a few hours while family traveled to you? My sister is an hour from the rest of us and when she had her second she brought her first to the hospital and he stayed with her DH in the waiting room until my mom got there.
  • I'm in the exact same situation! We are in a new city with no friends and family. One of my husband's colleagues has a 3 year old daughter so they will take our 2 year old if necessary. I'll also ask the daycare if they can take him an extra day if I happen to go early! It's stressful, but honestly it is not the end of the world if your husband has to stay with the other kids! Not ideal either, I know.
