I think mine was around $20000?  We paid about $2300.  Shit's redic.  B's circ was nearly $700.  He was gone a whole 10 minutes.  I want that job!
Yikes.  DH threw away our EOB before I could read it, but we only paid $200 then an additional $425 for a circ.

  • My episiotomy was $3k. No epi, but everything else was $11k. Most expensive hotel ever.
  • My ins co lucked out! Mine was only $7,300. I went med free, but hemorrhaged so that cost some additional $$ I'm sure.

@cfox815 Damn girl. I forgot- was that a C section?

  • Wtf, I can't believe how much you Guys pay. Up here in Canada we don't pay anything except circumcision because its elective. It's ridiculous how much insurance companies get billed but seriously what do people without insurance do??
  • My total bill was 18,000! C-section.. But we only pay our deductible so 3,000. Plus his circ which was 400.
  • I can't believe how much mine cost. I went completely med free, no complications and it cost $6300 for the hospital and $3800 for my midwife. That is all before insurance. Our deductible was met so we just had to pay 10%.
  • I had a c-section which was close to $18,000 and after insurance I had to pay $373. Gotta love my insurance.
  • Yeah, an epidural and a spinal and 48 hours of labor plus 3 days mandatory stay afterward-- my wallet says eff that.  But really we have great insurance so we paid about $2000 for everything from the day I got pregnant to PP care.  My bill alone was $36K and N's was $12K and I don't even live in a high cost of living area.

Remind me again why I didn't go to medical school.......

  • Our bill was around $32k before insurance we had to pay $2k c-section. Here is the real kicker we get a separate bill for my daughter because they took her to the nursery (a total of 4 hours) so I could get some sleep before insurance $5k we had to pay $1,300
  • 59k but ended up paying 1800. Epidural was 2400. I'm so glad I have insurance.
  • Wow! I can't believe how much some of you have to pay! I haven't gotten my bill yet but with ds1 I only had to pay my copay which was $200 plus the copays for MFM ultrasounds but our bill before insurance the first time was about $110, 000 due to induction, c-section NICU stay and me having to stay 6 days due to high bp. Shouldn't be anywhere near that this time since I had a vbac abs a 2 day stay
  • I can't remember my delivery costs but dang the nicu was expensive. Ethan's nine day nicu stay was $70k and Isaac's 17 day stay was $133k. Luckily we have insurance.

  • Holy! I couldn't even imagine if someone didn't have insurance! Even just paying the deductible sounds expensive for some. Another perk of living in Canada.
  • When I gave birth to DS1 in the US, we paid a flat $500 for a $32k birth and all of my prenatal care through AmeriHealth. This time it was NHS alllll the way, didn't pay a dime. I shudder to think what the NICU stay would have cost in addition to the C/s!

  • We had a lot of medical bills in 2013, including my FET, DH had cataract surgery and he has regular glaucoma appointments. So by the time baby was born we had ready gotten close to the deductibles and copayment maxes. My bill for the induction and hospital stay about $900. Glad we could do it all in one year.

    Holy shit!
  • I cant remember the total cost, but I paid $485. Vaginal birth w epidural.

I don't care who you are, this fucking pisses me off. Not something I would go around bragging about and rubbing in other people's faces.
  • Not sure about what the cost of delivery was, but was no one else's little boy's circ covered by insurance?  Ours was.  Is this something I should expect to come back as not covered?  Sorry to sidetrack. Just curious.
  • Our total was around $30,000 for vaginal birth with epidural, and that's not counting all the weekly nonstress tests in the month before.

Know what's fun?  We're self-insured and couldn't manage the maternity rider (which, pre-ACA, means paying extra premiums for a year before getting pregnant).

So it's alllllll out of pocket.

    The baby's worth it, though.

  • With my first baby the anesthesiologist told his office to throw out my bill because I had contacted them so many times about billing my insurance correctly & they weren't helping me. So it was FREE! How awesome is THAT!

    Wait -- you may win.
Wellll- I still had to pay the rest of my bill (with insurance). But- not having to pay for the epidural definitely saved us some $$!!

Girl I feel your pain! When I had DS1 we didnt have materity coverage so everything was all out of pocket. My OB waived her fees ( becuase of my previous stillborn) and we got a lot of help from being "underinsured" but before all that the total was 75k.... we are still paying for some of it.

If she qualifies and isnt lying or abusing the system then I think its awesome that she was able to use what her DH and her pay into. She isnt a drug addict, she did work, and her DH works. She isnt living off the system. She would have gone backrupt trying to pay all the bills she had with out it.

It was how she said it. Childish. I would absolutely love to be able to use what my DH and I pay into, unfortunately we don't qualify because of our incomes. I don't mind that, but I would prefer that people not throw it in our faces like nanana booboo you paid THOUSANDS out of pocket on top of what you pay every month and I didn't pay shit. Not cool.
  • Wtf is this world coming to. Sad. I'm not here to debate welfare, just wanted to point out what a douche you sounded like.

    You win.

    Yup. By a long shot.

  • I bet @CJS2011 would think I'm a bad person, too, then. I lost my insurance 10 days before my baby was born. Guess what, bitch?! The state took care of everything. From the epi and emergency csection, to the two ambulance rides down to Children's Hospital (one for me and one for my daughter, who's heart wasn't functioning) and 5 day stay for me and the 10 day stay in the NICU for my baby. I haven't seen a single piece of paper come for either one of us. Pissed off, yet?

Who the fuck are you to judge?
  • Whoa whoa whoa where did I ever say anything about welfare? I just said the way she said it was SUPER douchey. I don't think that is something to go around bragging about after a bunch of people just said how much they had to pay. I think you guys are the butthurt ones by reading your replies. Shit.
