Water

This is probably a really stupid question but here goes... I'm travelling overseas in march. My LO will be 10.5 months old. I've been told I should only give her water that has been boiled and cooled. Due to all the restrictions regarding taking fluids on board a flight, do you know if bottled water will be ok? Also what about taking baby food on board?

Re: Water

  • I've never boiled water to give to either of my LO's. I guess if you live in an area with bad water or something this would make sense. Bottled water has been purified using essentially the process you are describing, so I don't see why it wouldn't be ok, but you could always check with your pediatrician.

  • Forgot to say- as far as whether you can take bottled water or a sippy or bottle of water for your LO, or baby food, I know that most airlines are ok with this, but I would call them ahead of time to check regarding the specifics, like how many ounces, etc.

  • Out of curiosity, where are you going? If it's Europe, you don't need to worry about tap water. Anywhere else, bottled water will be totally fine, and you can buy Nestlé brand literally anywhere (I have seen it in places as varied as Thailand, Nigeria, and Jordan) if that makes you feel a little better.

  • I would just plan to buy a bottle of water in the airport after you clear security and then buy bottled water at your destination if you're uncertain of water quality.

  • What country are you going to?  Most places in Europe bottled water is safe.  Africa or Southeast Asia I would probably heed the warnings.
