Back to work and pumping on weekend?

I went back to work this week ( my LO is 13 weeks). I am pumping right before I leave after I feed him at 6 AM and then I am pumping at work at 9 AM and 12 pm and coming home to feed him at 3pm. What do I do about the weekend? I don't want to mess with my supply, so do I still need to be pumping around those same times over the weekend?

Re: Back to work and pumping on weekend?

  • Nope! I never pump on the weekends. Too much work. Hasn't messed with my supply and I've been working since LO was 3 months old & he's going on 7 months on the 1st of Feb! I actually used to pump befor leaving for work even after I nursed him, also at 10,1 & 4 while ate work. Then i'd nurse him when I got home at 6. Now I nurse him around 6am pump at work at 10 & 1 and just nurse him when I get home. Sometimes very rarely I'll pump at 4. It works for me. I usually get between 8-10 oz a day from pumping at work.

  • I pump once in the AM on my days off for the freezer because I'm not pumping enough at work for her bottles. If I was, I wouldn't pump weekends.

  • I never pumped on the weekends either. LO is almost 1 year, and we never had any problems. I just nurse on demand on the weekends.

  • You don't need to pump on the weekends if you are nursing full-time. The reason you are pumping at work is to empty your breasts to signal your body that baby needs that milk. On the weekends, your breasts are being emptied by baby, so no need to pump!
  • Thanks ladies, I appreciate the responses. This is great news! I will put my pump away ASAP!!
  • I pumped before DD woke up on Saturday and Sunday mornings, because it gave me an extra 8-12oz buffer for the week.  It just made me feel better that I wasn't focused on pumping an exact amount every day during the week!
