31 weeks.. Measuring 34

So I went to my Dr apt yesterday and she said I was measuring 3 weeks ahead. Horray for that. Anyway, she said she thought I would go early (which I completely agree with) because of my job. (I'm a nurse). She said that when I go in for my next apt we are going to do another U/S to see how large the baby is (I'm being monitored closely because my DH was 12lbs when he was born) and if he is measuring large we are moving up my due date by 3 weeks. She said if I get to 35 weeks she will be happy. Thats less than 4 weeks away!!!!! Things just got real!

  • You mean they will be inducing you 3 weeks early if the baby is measuring large like your last kiddo? I don't think they change your "due date" this late in the game. They may say they won't stop labor if it begins... or they may suggest inducing you at that point. I'm confused.

  • Wish I knew what I'm measuring. Haven't had an u/s in forever! I'm 31 weeks now.
  • I've been measuring at 34 weeks since week 27/28. Didn't change at my 29/30 week appt. my doctor says it's a big baby, but she's not worried at this point. We will do a scan at 36 weeks and go from there.

  • Whoa. I would be totally uncomfortable with that. DD was always measuring ahead in her growth scans and was 10lb, 1oz born at 39wks. I would absolutely opt for a c/s at 39wks than delivering earlier than that because the baby is big. Big baby doesn't equal more mature or ready for the outside. I would much rather deal with my own recovery from surgery than risk having to put my baby in the NICU at 35wks. How early is she wanting to induce you?
Yes all of this!! Couldn't have said it better myself.

I totally agree with this too. My baby is measuring a few weeks ahead too and I asked doc if I'd go early and she said, "nah, size has nothing to do with maturity". I'm glad you posted this too bc I did want to hear y'all's opinions.

Yeah...nothing about the OP makes sense to me at all.  Plus or minus 2/3cm is considered normal for fundal height measurements, they don't change your EDD based on the baby's size at 30+ weeks, your DH's size at birth means absolutely nothing, and having a demanding job doesn't mean the baby's coming early.

  • I have been measuring anywhere from 4-6 weeks ahead since they started measuring me at, like, 16 weeks. At my last appt at 29 weeks, I was measuring at 34 weeks. Seriously, that alone is not a reason to induce. I am going to rely more on my Bishop's score if the word "induction" is ever brought up.
