Colic??

For the past few days, DS has been very fussy. He won't sleep for more than 30-45 minutes at a stretch. He's not hungry and doesn't have a dirty diaper. We have been holding him and snuggling him to calm him down and it will work for a short period of time. We are checking to see if his formula is upsetting his tummy as he is extremely gassy and spits up quit a bit of it.  I'm wondering though if it's colic. I thought preemies didn't get it until they were about 3 weeks adjusted age, so I'm a little confused. Any opinions are welcome. TIA!

Sounds like reflux to me too. Switching formula fast will cause stomach issues too. Try gas drops, they may help settle the stomach. Doesn't sound like colic.

Yes, that is about the time reflux started for us.  Medicine is probably needed if that's what it is.

We had reflux shortly after we left the NICU, and we left at about 38w GA.

My son was having similar issues.  He is 10 weeks old, 4 1/2 weeks adjusted.  He has been taking Gerber Sooth Colic Drops which helped, but he still seemed to be in pain sometimes, especially in the evening hours.  He is now taking Zantac 2x/day and it has been a lifesaver!  He is happy and smiling and is a totally different baby!

I had severe colic with my first. Eyes closed, mouth open, screaming bloody murder 8-12 hours per day. She also had reflux. If he's sleeping 30-45 minutes, you're doing well. G would sleeping 5-15 minutes, only after being fed. And due to reflux and all the screaming she'd throw it all up anyway, so I'd walk around in just my bra since she was feeding every 45 mins. Couldn't put her down and by afternoon, both of us would be crying. No time for me to eat so I lost all the weight by 3 weeks and my milk supply by 6 weeks. Even tho she was 3 weeks early, colic came on at 14 days and lasted until 9 weeks. After that, she was just normal fussy.

Well, we took DS into the pediatrician. They've put him on a hypoallergenic formula, probiotic drops, and Zantac.  So far he seems to feel better. He's even slept for 3 hour stretches. I'm so glad he's feeling better.  Thanks everyone for the advice.

I am going thru the exact same thing!!!! I switched to sensitive formula and using gripe water but this is tough. Trying to find wat works for her. Gl.

I think my DS has it. He's 3 months actual but only 3 days adjusted. The spit up is not too bad but every night he goes through 2/3 hours of pure crying for no reson. Last night, he cried out every 15 minutes in his sleep like he was in pain but would go back to sleep. I'm going to have a serious talk with his pedi on Friday and see what we should do. Also, he's on gerber good start ...the only formula he was able to digest over 2 months ago while in the NICU (we went through a few dark weeks where he spit up everything he ate). Finally, I noticed he doesn't spit up the ready made but if you give him powder, he projectile vomits.
