Nap woes

Ds2 is a terrible napper. No matter what I do he only naps for 30 minutes at a time. Ds1 was the same way and he didn't nap well until he was about 10 months. I really need ds2 to take good naps now as I need a bit of a break as the two boys have me running all day long. Does anybody have any suggestions or am I destined to not get a break until he gets older?

Re: Nap woes

  • No advice, just some sympathy. J doesn't like to nap either. Plus he seems to have cut himself down to 1 nap a day that usually only lasts 30min.

  • MJ is only a good napper if I am snuggling him. With snuggles, he easily goes over an hour. Without them, 30 minutes tops.

I love the snuggles but it would be nice to get a break sometimes!
  • We have three 30 minute naps a day over here. I've given up trying to make her nap longer :)
  • I've found that laying M in our bed and boxing her in with pillows is the best way she naps. She will usually give me two 1-2 hour naps (morning and afternoon) this way. It took about 5-6 months to figure this out. And it works so I'm sticking with it lol

we were doing this for a while, but now that M is so mobile (she can army crawl backwards ridiculously fast!) I'm very nervous to leave he on the bed, even if I have the monitor and am watching her. I'm terrified I won't be able to run back in there fast enough

  • Does he self soothe? We were getting short naps until she learned to self soothe when we did some sleep training. Now it's like 50/50 good and bad naps but typically at least one nap a day will be one hour+. Sorry I don't have anymore advice

It depends on the day how long he decides to sleep. Some days 20 minutes; others over 3 hours. He is down to two naps a day though.
  • I think he can self soothe as at night be sometimes wakes, babbles for a bit then goes back to sleep. He sleeps in a sleepsack at night but I never put it in him during the day. I'll have to try!

  • My LO will naps 2-3 hours if I hold him, but if I put him in his crib 30 min max and then he is pissy because he didn't get his long nap. It's really hard to not have any me time I understand. I hope in a couple more months our babies will be taking better naps in their cribs.
    Will be following!

  • My lo is a great napper as long as she has my boob. Otherwise she only naps in a wrap or a moving vehicle.

No advice. J naps in his swing with the music on. Some naps are 20 mins and some are 2 hrs.

This. We have the swing in the living room, which opens to the kitchen so we also turn the vent fan above the stove on as white noise.

Very interesting. I may try this tomorrow. I'm have the same 30 minute problem as everyone else here and he sleeps for 2+ hours if he's with me or on me. We took a 2.5 hour nap together on Monday but somedays I need to get shit done. And getting a long nap during DS1s afternoon nap will help my sanity. Maybe the bed smelling like me will help!
