Follow up to "Refusing Solids"

So we've figured out that it's a texture thing. He'll eat store bought purées because they're so smooth. The homemade food I have has a little more texture which he is not into. So what are some good food to help him get used to different textures? We've done squash, carrots, and bananas which he flat out refused. We tried some puff things, but he's still gagging on them. Anybody else's LO sensitive to textures?

Re: Follow up to "Refusing Solids"

  • I give it to him warm, he doesn't like it cold either. I've tried adding more water to it and it didn't seem to help. I'm kinda bummed because we keep having to throw out a bunch of the food I made and buy store bought. I guess I'll just keep trying. Thanks for the ideas!

  • You can try straining your homemade purees. DD would touch my peas purée until I strained it. Also I find the blender gets thing a lot smoother then food processor. If he likes the store bought stuff you can try slowly adding cereal to them to get him used to a bit of texture. Or try a 50/50 mix with your homemade.

    I often throw in a store bought jar into a purée I am making at home. So for example I was making puréed green beans. After pureeing them I felt they were a bit chunky still. I added an Earths Best carrots to add a little sweetness but it also smoothed my homemade purée out a bit.
  • @araziza what do you strain them through? I noticed that with the blender too. I might try to cereal thing so he can get use to it gradually thanks!
    @JessicaKS that's a great idea I'll give it a shot too!
