My husband had his sperm aspiration today (it was recommended that we do a freeze-ahead to see what we were looking at it before undergoing IVF).
I am still reeling but it sounds like it's bad news
I did not get to speak to the surgeon (he may or may not call back before the end of the day). The surgical assistant told me they identified sperm in the OR, and that they had to go into both testicles.
My nurse coordinator just called me. She hasn't gotten to speak with the dr, but didn't want me to go the whole weekend without hearing something. Here's what she said (and please pardon my terminology...I wasn't prepared for this at all and was in half-shock while hearing):
They "QC" tested 10 small random samples from the specimens. They found 1 non-motile sperm. They froze it and then there was zero sperm.
I am confused because (in my stupidity I suppose) I thought they were going to comb the entire sample and get total sperm counts. She said they can't because then they couldn't freeze it.
Our urologist called and said they still may find something when they go to use the entire sample (because that happens "all the time").
Anyone have any insight?
