  • There are tons that fit your criteria. Are there other things you prefer? (Like: backpack/messenger/shoulder bag, dad friendly, top zipper, stroller straps) give us more to go off of another factor is lifestyle, will you be working or SAH? Budget?

Personally I have tried a BUNCH and my current go to is the skip hop duo for all day outings or an overland brand purse for quick meal free errands.

  • I love my Timi and Leslie Dawn, it looks like a regular purse but it is super functional.

I'll be going to work and baby will be going to daycare.  i hear some people buy 2 bags. a small and a big but i don't know if thats just going to get overwhelming

budget - not a huge deal. i don't mind spending the $ for an item that will last long in the end

In that case I would suggest a skip hop (I love the duo because it's big enough to fit everything I needed to take in to daycare, but DH didn't mind carrying it). I would stay away from the jj cole as the tend to fall apart. The only issue with the duo is that the main compartment only has a magnetic closure, sometimes I love that it is so easy to gear what I need but my toddler can do the same.

I do like having more than one bag especially now that DD is older. I don't need to take as much with me now because she is much less likely to have an incident that requires a full change.

  • My current go to is the OiOi carry all, but it's pretty big & I have 2 in diapers. For DS1 I used my OiOi hobo and loved it people always complimented my purse.

I purchased a Timi & Leslie Rachael bag for 2U2. The pockets and parent bag were wonderful, but the shape of it turned it into a black hole. I had to dig for everything.

One tip when shopping is get a zipper top and make sure your bag is wider- not taller. Also BBB tends to clearance out OiOi bags in store, so I paid around $70 for the hobo.

I have and love the storksak Olivia. It has plenty of useful pockets. I also have a Marc Jacobs Elizababy and it's my least favorite. While it's big and fits a lot the pockets are useless and everything just falls to the bottom. I like to put my diapers and wipes in the pockets for quick access which you can do in the storksak
  • Does anyone know where I could look at diaper bags in person?  I checked BRU but they didn't have much of a selection.  There are so many options online and I think it might be better if I could see some in person before deciding.

  • Buy buy baby has lots of bags in store, boutique stores often have a decent selection of high end bags as well.

Ju-Ju-Be Be All.  It's a messenger bag style diaper bag, and has some amazing features.  Plus, it comes in lots of fun patterns.  Mine is still going strong, 3 years later.  You can throw it in the washing machine (air dry) and it looks good as new.

ETA:  I second finding a Buy Buy Baby to look at bags.  They usually have a nice selection of higher-end bags from Skip Hop, Ju-Ju-Be, Petunia Picklebottom, and even some name brand bag designers like Kate Spade.
  • I have a JJ Cole and have been using it daily for 26mo. No rips, no tears...and I cram that thing FULL to the point where I cannot close it (I work 10hr days and my toddler goes with me, so I bring a lot of crap!).

  • I had a JJ Cole and a pocket ripped. It was a great bag before that, and I considered taking it somewhere and having it fixed. (To be fair, hubster managed to somehow get it caught in the wheels of the stroller, and I don't think any bag would have survived.). Bought a SkipHop, which didn't work for us. Too many little pockets to really be functional for us, though it came with a very cool food keeper bag we still use. We ended up with a Fisher Price, of all things, and absolutely love it. It's by far the cheapest of the three, and it's held up extraordinarily well. Easy to clean, too!

Agree with Buy Buy Baby to check them out. It's like Diaper Bag Nirvana.
  • *following* I need a new diaper bag for this LO. :)

  • i have the Kate Spade Stevie..while I used it (on maternity leave) i liked it but as DD got older and needed more stuff (toys, food etc) it just felt big and bulky. I found myself trying to run errands and go places without. I have a larger longchamp purse and just shove stuff in there vs. taking out the "gym bag" as I refer to it as. When I was pregnant you couldn't have talked me out of buying this bag but in retrospect I'm not sure it was worth the price tag
  • NOT CHICCO! Ours started to disintegrate almost immediately. Now, we use one by skip hop, and it's holding up quite nicely, despite how much we load the thing down. Look for one with cooler pockets and strolker straps. You'll be glad that you did! Lots of pockets are also good so you can organize your stuff a little easier.
  • skip hop duo - if you want something reasonably priced and functional
storksak bag - beautiful , and big functional diaper bags.. i have the kate patent from them ...it is very pretty but the tania bee is super awesome coz its very light too even when fully packed.
