? for those with twins/multiples

Is it possible for a twin to be measuring a few days behind the other when you're only 5 weeks along? I went in for my first ultrasound today thinking I was just under 7 weeks along. They said I was measuring about 4 weeks 5 days, which we're not concerned about since I probably just O'd late. But they saw something else that is either another gestational sac or something left over from my last pregnancy, which was measuring about 4 weeks 1 day. I go in for a follow-up ultrasound in two weeks, but I wanted to see if you ladies had any thoughts in the mean time.

Re: ? for those with twins/multiples

  • Yes. My first ultrasound with the boys was right around 4w - they could hardly even make out a pregnancy, let alone fetus(es). At my next ultrasound two weeks later, Jamie was measuring 6w4d and Simon was measuring 6w2d. A lot of the women in the multiples forum will tell you that they've had their babies measure apart by up to a week during that first trimester. If you have one sac measuring at 4w5d and another at 4w1d, It sounds like you just ovulated/implanted on two different days and a follow up in a couple of weeks will confirm whether or not you've got two viable little ones :) Don't get your hopes up, early "vanishing twin" is pretty common - but once you get to the point where you've got heartbeats, you have a good chance of dos bebes ;)

  • Mine always measured a few days apart.
