Pumping and bleeding nipples

I hav have little sores / cuts on my one nipple that pumping is only making worse. I put earth mother nipple butter in the inside of the flange this morning and that seemed to help it since it decreased the friction on the side of the nipple. Is it still safe to feed that milk? I know putting lanolin in the flange has been suggested before but I seem to have a reaction to lanolin so can't use that. If I can't use the milk it is fine I have a HUGE freezer supply. And since it is the weekend I will be nursing rather then pumping while at work. Nursing doesn't seem to make the cuts worse, so hoping I can get them cleared up this weekend since will be nursing less.

Re: Pumping and bleeding nipples

  • It's fine to use the milk. I use earth mother nipple butter every time I pump, a LC suggested that to prevent chafing and soreness. You can also rub in a little BM on the cuts and that can help with healing.
