So I thought that since we have had some down days here on the board, we could all use a little uplifting.
On Tuesday, my wife decided to go outside and shovel our sidewalk and also a path to the fire hydrant. It was a bitter -35 outside, but she insisted. She came back to the house a little while later and was holding a little ball of fur. It was a squirrel. Apparently he was sitting in the middle of the driveway frozen and not moving and my wife tapped him to see if he was alive. Although he didn't move, he looked up at her with his sweet little eyes and she picked him up (with gloves). She brought him to the door and we immediately placed him in a box with towels and a heating pad to try and warm him up. We tried to call the local nature center but couldn't get through, so we just decided to head that way anyway. We were thrilled to find that they were open and they took him in and gave us a case number.
We called today for an update, and despite his condition when we dropped him off, he is fine!! She said that had he been outside much longer he would have died. However, by the end of the night Tuesday, he was coming around. Apparently he is now eating all the food they can give him and he will be making a full recovery. They will be bringing him back this way to release him sometime in the next few days!!
We are looking forward to seeing him raid our bird feeders
