Lazy/Wandering Eyes

For the last week or so, SO and I have been noticing that our LO has a lazy or "wandering" eye. We knew it was normal for his eyes to roll or do weird things while he was sleeping or when he was about to fall asleep, but when he is wide awake and looking at us, either his left or right eye will kinda wander off to the side. It doesn't always wander but when it does, it's kinda freaky.

I did a little research and found that newborn eyes are still developing and will do weird things for a while. We also have an appointment in a few weeks so I'll bring it up to his doctor as well.

So my question is, did/does your newborn have the same eye issue and when did they go back to normal?

DS1 and DD have it.  They are also seem to share a lot of other features as they look a lot alike.  They got their blue eyes from my MIL who has a wandering eye, and DH has it slightly.  I'm anticipating that this is a staying quality, but I understand that there are surgeries to correct it.  

Definitely talk to the pedi about it if it's concerning you.  They can give you a reasonable timeline in which to watch it, or make recommendations for treatment.

Definitely mention it to doc. It is true that newborns are still working on eye control. But there are cases where it is a true lazy eye. My DD1 had one and we saw an eye specialist, went through months of eye patching and she even ended up having eye surgery to correct it.

Most likely at your LO's age there is no problem but it doesn't hurt to mention it just in case.

Totally normal. Happened with mine and now his eyes are fine.

I think for the most part, its fine but I would talk to the dr about it also. Our LO has a slight wandering eye when she is tired and also has some focusing problems, but our pedi said that there is no need to worry until she is about 3 or 4 months old.  If, at that point, she is still having problems, they will send us to an eye dr.  Any time before that their eye muscles are still developing.
