feeding confusion

Hi moms,

I've introduced LO to solids since 4mo. He is an amazing eater and pretty much has eaten everything I have put in his mouth. On the other hand LO is not that great of a sleeper and never has been. Since I am a SAHM it's not a problem for me to get up several times a night. However, once I gave him more solids around 4-5 weeks ago he slept through the night for a few weeks. We left to visit family for a week for christmas and hasn't slept through the night since and now his feedings are off too. He used to eat 5-6 bottles totaling 30oz now its only 5 bottles 24oz. Our schedule is usually wake at 7-8 w/6oz bottle and 2oz of fruit w/1TBS of cereal; nap around 9 or 10 (1hr -1 1/2hrs); 11-12 lunch 6oz bottle w/3.5 oz food; Nap for about 2hrs (usually 2hrs after waking from morning nap); 2-3 6oz bottle w/snack; catnap around 3or4pm for 40min; dinner usually around 5:00-5:30 3.5oz food; bed between 7-7:30 w/4oz bottle that we usually have to force down the last 2oz, wake usually 3am for 2oz feeding.
His bedtime has been such a struggle.....i have tried weaning the MOTN bottle and just rock him but the past two nights he'll fall asleep in my arms but if Iput him down he screams, cries and its a 2hr ordeal. I have given in and just gave 2oz.
Any suggestions? He can barely make it past 2 hrs between naps without being a hot mess and usually can't go longer than 3-31/2 hrs for bottles/feedings.

TIA!

Re: feeding confusion

  • Assuming he goes right back to sleep after his 3 am feeding I feel like he's sleeping a lot for this age. I think they are supposed to get about 14 hours total. I might try cutting out the noon nap and moving it to 2 or 3

  • His feedings have been wakeful ones. He's up for a good 1hr or 2. He's been pretty right on track with his sleeping keeping it right around 14 hrs total. I've got an app.

  • A lot of our babies are having difficult sleeping as they normally would right now;  seems to be a developmental thing plus teething.  We're also suffering from the lack of schedule during the holidays and I'm pushing up E's bedtime an hour earlier, which seems to help.

Thank you! I think sometimes I get a little considered being a FTM. He's been getting tired earlier and his naps are good but rubbing his eyes and yawning shortly after waking.  He's just been all over, so I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing.  Tx.

  • I have no help but just wanted to say hot damn, we have absolutely no schedule :-/  On weekdays he gets up by 6:30 and eats if he wants.  He takes a couple naps at daycare of no more than an hour each, whenever the hell he feels like it.  He eats in between, whenever the hell he feels like it.  He goes to bed....whenever he feels like it lol  No, that part is a lie.  He's in bed by 8 but this last week he's started melting down by 7 so he goes then.  So, not a total lie.  Some nights he wakes up.  Some nights he doesn't.  I kind of have schedule envy but he just won't have it.

I have to say, its just sort of come together in the past month. He used to be in bed around 8 then lately its been 7-7:30; last night he started to fall apart around 6:30, so we started routine around then. I started to keep track of his feeds and sleeps for a week and I realized he started to schedule himself. I just went with it, so this is why now I realize he's off and maybe rescheduling himself again, and also this morning realized he's cutting his other bottom took so this is maybe why things are the way they are.
