Our LO was babbling often at seven months. He makes 'da' noises and 'ba' noises and VERY rarely the 'ma' noise. He repeats them over and over. He's also good at making 'huh' noises that really sound like a question.
As for what 'should' I couldn't say. We're first timers and I think each baby is just gonna be different, you know?
I'm not sure either. DD is 7 months next week and hardly babbling at all.(She's very vocal otherwise--laughing, shrieking, etc). I'm sort of worried about it, but pediatrician says she's fine....I think they all just "talk" when they're ready.

My DD was 6 months last week and she has days where she talks a lot and others that she doesn't. She was talking a lot last month and then all the sudden stopped sleeping well and when she's tired she doesn't talk as much.
Babies are taking in SO MUCH right now and they all handle it differently. Some will be talkers and others will be quiet. As long as your LO is making some noise and starting to make the sounds of some letters (not on command, but like PP said the "ba" sound), I wouldn't worry.
My MIL always tells the story of my DH, who only said a couple of words until he was 3. And then when his grandmother woke him up from a nap he said "Gram, you're a pain my ass." (proof kids listen to everything lol). He never felt the need to talk before that- he pointed and got what he wanted, so he didn't talk. Doesn't mean anything was wrong with him.
I'm sure you're LO will be saying things that embarrass you soon enough!

My baby made the "ma ma ma" sounds first, then "ba ba ba." She started with "na na na" a couple days ago. She also says "hey" and makes a lot of clicking noises with her tongue. She first started "talking" at 6 months.
My DS will be 8 months on the 17th of Feb. and he says 'hey, mama, dada, love" and yells constantly. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, children develop differently.
Mine screams when he's happy/sad/pooping/whatever. He says "mama" "baba" "nana"makes raspberries, etc. I think this is just his personality. All babies are different and I think some talk early, some late, that's why 7-8 months is an "average." I wouldn't worry unless your pediatrician says something.
