Pregnant after IF

Just a question to all going through fertility!

I had success after 3 years and 4 iui cycles. I am just curious about after and a second baby. I am only 24 weeks along so I have alot of time until i need to worry but just wondering how successful others are after dealing with fertility issues for their first. I have thyroid disease and do not ovulate on my own, overweight and higg bp. I lost 40 lbs before dr would do iui and changed my meds around and had success but what about after should I take the pill or use protection? What r my chances of conceiving on my own. I just want to hear others experiences

Re: Just a question to all going through fertility!

  • Everyone's diagnosis and situation is different. I know some people who had a surprise 2nd baby after needing IVF for their first. However, I found it much more difficult to get pregnant and stay pregnant when trying for my 2nd.

We also will never use birth control again. If we have a surprise #3 miracle baby then that would be amazing. However I'm not holding my breath. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

  • I agree with both previous posters.  The ladies on the Success After IF board probably have more experience.

I will say that if you only had to do IUIs, it was probably a hormonal issue, since you weren't ovulating?  Pregnancy can change your hormones in a lot of different ways.  Some permanent, some temporary.  A friend of mine went through IF for 10 years, went on clomid, etc., because she wasn't ovulating.  Last year (at the beginning of my IVF cycle), she suddenly found out they were expecting - and they had given up a few years ago and began looking into adoption!  Moral of the story?  If you absolutely don't want to get pregnant again right away, do something about it.  If it's no big deal, it may happen, it may not.

PS - Breastfeeding is also a natural way to control ovulation.  Most women don't ovulate during BF.
