I want all of the wine - what's your favorite?

Fellow wine lovers, please recommend your favorite wine(s) to me so I can begin stocking up when little man arrives! My wine cabinet is looking sad and I am sad because it didn't get that way with any help from me! I am in need of some re-stockage. I like just about anything but I prefer the red or blended red categories a la Menage a Trois and Apothic Red. I avoid white zinfandel like the plague and I hate anything smokey tasting. Other than that, I am game for just about anything.

  • I love moscato d'asti, but my mil informed me that's not really wine. Lol. I guess I'm a wuss, I'm not a huge wine fan.

  • Oh, I do like Chianti (?) which is a red. No clue if I spelled that right
  • A very chilled glass of lambrusco is the best! It is a sweet red wine and incredibly delicious! Enjoy!

  • LOL, DH and I stocked up on some wine this weekend at Costco in anticipation of my pregnancy coming to an end.  Now I can't wait to have some!

I like sweet whites - Riesling, especially a late harvest variety, is my absolute favorite.  DH loves dry reds, and Malbec is his favorite.  Costco sells good varieties of both for under $10.

  • I'm a big wine drinker, but a huge fan of whites but I drink red too since DH loves it. Seven Daughters is one of my favs. They have a red where they blend 7 different red wines together-soooo good. I get their white wine too.
  • I'm a fan of Gewürztraminer (sweet German white wine), Malbec, and Pinot Noirs. I usually go to Trader Joes and get my wine there. They have some good wines for decent prices.

  • Ben Marco Malbec is awesome! Can't wait to have a glass!! Malbecs are my favorite - especially from Argentina. I have a few bottles on the rack waiting for me but am too lazy to get out of bed to go look to see what they are. And I'm too pregnant to remember lol.

  • Our latest discovery is Road 13 Seventy Four K. It's a Shiraz Malbec blend, I think. It's from BC so not sure if it's hard to find in the US (was actually a little hard to find even here!). But SO good. More of a splurge wine though.

For a glass with dinner, often we drink Wolf Blass or Little Penguin Shiraz. Cheap is good! I like Lindemans Sav Blanc in summer too.

  • I get most of my wine from right here in Iowa. There's a dry red, Frontenac, from a place by Omaha, that's reaaallly good! And one that is called Wagon Trail Red that has a little less flavor in it.

One place, I love the names of their wines, the winery is Breezy Hills Vineyard. They have a blush called Misbehavin', another (maybe white?) called 5 o'clock Somewhere. And their raspberry wine is HEAVENLY!!!

Another place I go is called Snus Hill. All of their labels have cats.

Notice that I go by character of the place???

I'm not sure which wineries will deliver, but I know several do. The one with Frontenac does not, unfortunately.

  • @daltaso TJ's has the best wine for the price! Now that we live in PA the stores here can't sell alcohol, it's very sad.

@gina0485, two of our favorites for your cellar: Snoqualmie Riesling and 7 Deadly Zins.

I can't wait to drink all the wine as well!

  • I second @PreDempsey 's suggestion of Kim Crawford. I like New Zealand sauvignon blancs in general, but the Kim Crawford is by far my favorite. It's very grapefruity but not sweet. I can't stand syrupy wines.

As for reds, I'm on team Malbec. My DH just opened a bottle of Seeker Malbec that was quite nice.

  • I almost wrote this exact post the other night. Menage a trois has been my favorite for a few years, but I am always up for anything new! I also like the different reds that yellowtail makes... And good for the price.

  • I really love Sokol Blosser's Evolution Red.  Costco will sometimes have it around 13-15 p. bottle.  It's a lighter pinot based red blend.  It's fabulous!  I really like sparking rose with at least 75% pinot noir, if you can find it.  Finally Cooper's Hawk Winery has a Winter Red, that is actually served warmed up(they suggest in a crock pot on low or watching it on the stove closely so it doesn't boil), but it's a blended spiced wine.  I have a few bottles of those three for after our Baby Jay's arrival (also some of my favorite beers that come out in fall-early winter).
  • I know nothing about wine (other than it's alcoholic), but a co-worker of mine loves the Dreaming Tree "Crush" red wine. I've never had it, so I don't know, but she raves about it. :)
@brideandbreve that is a great wine! I've had it before, interestingly, at my first Dave Matthews concert.

  • I love red mixes! They make me happy. ménage trois, 7 sisters.. Gah I know there are a few more that I like. Otherwise Shiraz, any brand. Yum yum. I want all the wine, too!! Relax moscato is great for a white, too.

  • I will also throw out there that for anyone who likes Sauvignon Blanc, Matua Valley is one of the yummiest I've had for a white. On a warmer day, I love to enjoy a cold glass of this one.

We buy this wine called Los Ailos. It's an Argentinian wine -- a syrah malbec blend. So yummy.

Chateau Ste. Michelle makes some good wines.  Columbia Crest and Two Vines are also part of the same winery.  All quality wines for a really great price!  Their winery is BEAUTIFUL!  :)  It's a half hour from my house and one of our fave spots to wine taste!  Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm!

@aessary03 Tamarack Cellars is yummy! I miss WA wines! It's so hard to find any here! :( I rarely see anything from Walla Walla which makes me super sad. I can generally find wines from the gorge area, but to me they're not as good as Walla Walla ones.

  • Ive only been living in a non dry county for two years now. I know a lot about mixed drinks but not so much wine. Up until recently the only wine I knew was pretty much arbor mist and cheap reds. All the whites I've tried before finding the one below were disgusting. I also don't like anything from the brand winking owl or the one with four trees in the label. Yuck!

Now? The only wine I will drink is this white stuff. We don't have any wine/beer stores in our city though, but you can get this at Walmart here for $15.47. It's amazing. But then again, I lack experience. Also, growing up in a household that didn't believe in drinking coupled with the closest place to buy alcohol being an hour away didn't help. I'm still learning!
  • @daltoso, I could send you a bottle .... or five! lol.  I have ton of walla walla wines hanging out in my wine rack.
