Materniti21 test

Has anyone had any experiense with this test on multibles? I had the blood drawn today and was told that it wont be able to do gender correctly only tell me if I am having two girls or at least one boy. And it cant tell me if both or just one has an issue. We went ahead with it anyway, better to know than not I guess :)

Re: Materniti21 test

  • I did this test and they were able to tell there was no Y chromosomes present in the babies' DNA, which meant both had to be girls. If there were any Y chromosomes, then at least one would have to be a boy.

Since my twins are identical and have the same DNA, if they found an issue with one, it would mean both share the problem. Makes it easy to diagnose issues for both! (luckily, there were none). If your twins are fraternal I think there's no way to tell which DNA goes to which baby, it's all jumbled up. But it's still better to know if there are any issues! Good luck! I hope you get good results back!

  • Yes, I was given a 1:6 chance of downs for my boys based on the first trimester screening. We opted to do the Mat21, and everything came back fine. PPs info is correct on sex determination. The test confirmed the male chromosome was present and since we knew we were having identicals it confirmed twin boys! Also, the test turn around time was really fast for me. I think it only took 5 or 6 days.
  • Thanks guys :)

I did it when my quad screen bloodwork came back at elevated risk of Down syndrome. If materniti21 came back positive it meant Down syndrome was present but we wouldn't know baby. We would need to do amino if we wanted to find out. Ours came back negative. Good luck!
