Best Bottom ?

I have one BB insert and cover. I think the insert might be an overnight. It's brand new, but I got it cheap and out of the package because it needed a repair so I'm not sure if it's an overnight or not. it's pretty bulky and stiff.

Anyway...when I took it out of the wet bag (he wore it to daycare) I was really glad I hadn't invested more in this system. There was poop EVERYWHERE! The cover was covered with it. It was under the insert, too. Ick. Is this normal for best bottoms? I mean I could totally see how it could be the norm. The inserts are fairly narrow IMO (compared to pockets or prefolds) and it would be hard for the poop to NOT go under the insert.

Re: Best Bottom ?

  • Is your kids poop still really runny? Ai2 systems don't work great with runny poop. They're more for once your kid isn't pooping as often and/or poop is more solid, IMO.

I wouldn't call it runny, but it's usually squishy, more like PB poo, I guess (with lots of food bits in it). There are days where it's always ploppable, but that isn't the majority of the time. Even now it's not usual for him to poop 5 times/day, though I'd say 3-4 is more normal.

Okay, well at least I'm not crazy. I just thought maybe I was doing it wrong.

  • I've only had that happen once and it was a particularly offensive poo. Sitting all day in a wet bag wrapped up probably doesn't help. We only use BBs at home, not for DC.

  • Runny/squishy poo is bound to get on the cover.  My LO only poops once to twice per day, sometimes every other day. For this reason, I don't really care when the BB cover gets messy.

Also, you'd know if it were an overnight insert because there would be snaps on both sides (on top and underneath). Regular stay dry and hemp inserts only have snaps on one side, to snap into the cover.

  • Yeah, that's a good point about it sitting @TJ1979.  I think maybe this just isn't the right diaper for us with his poo tendencies and him being at daycare 50 hrs/wk. I just bought some more used inserts, but I think I'll end up trying to sell them and the cover as a lot. Damnit. I love that hedgehog print.
  • Have you tried them overnight? We use a doubler and a hemp insert as our overnight dipe and it's awesome!

Okay @JEPES1348 I think it did have snaps on both sides. Oh, and ACK I think it's not meant to be used by itself, right, because it's microfiber. There should be a diff. fabric against his skin. Oops. Eh, I'll stick with pockets or prefolds I think. KISS
  • Ugh, let us know when you try to sell them :)

No. I'll have to wait until the inserts I bought come.  I was thinking that might be a good use for it since he doesn't poop at night. I also bought some hybrids and wool covers. He sleeps so well now in a sposie that every time he wakes up a little early or something I'm going to wonder if it's the diaper. I don't know if I'm really going to bite the bullet and pursue this whole overnight thing.

    Will do!

When ds's poop is softer it does go everywhere inside the cover.  However, I have 6 BB and now 2SB covers that I use 1x per day so when he gets poop on the cover it's nbd.  I just unsnap the insert while knocking/scraping what I can into the toilet and put the whole thing in the bucket.

FWIW, the covers do work with prefolds so you don't necessarily have to say bye to the hedgehog.

  • Also you could pair that overnight insert with a snappi'd prefold as an overnight solution. I've done that a few times this past week and it has worked really well.
  • Sell the inserts, but keep the cover!  I love my BBs..inserts and all...but you can use with a prefold or fitted, the cover itself if awesome.

I have found the covers to be too narrow to cover a prefold well. At least in angelwing fold which is what I do 99% of the time when using prefolds. I supposed it would probably work fine tri-folded.

Trifolding is the easiest fold to get the poop off!
  • I don't really use prefolds that much anymore since we bought a gazillion pockets for daycare.
