I too am more familiar with the Eric spelling and wondered if others would think the Erik spelling was "youneek", but I find I just like it better. Maybe bc I've known Eric's but never any Erik's. Who knows.
As I posted in the Scandinavian name threads, my H is Finnish and our last name is very Finnish... His cousin (same last name) is Erich, and I really love that spelling.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Erik though. I'm all about paying homage to your roots, whether people think it is youneek or not.
I love the look of Erik, but I would probably go with Eric only because it's more intuitive for us Americans in terms of spelling. Which means he won't have to correct people or introduce himself as "Erik with a k"

I agree. I'm an Erika, and I constantly have to correct the spelling of my name. My grandmother still can't get it right. My other grandmother painted my name on a little wooden chair when I was young and spelled it wrong (I still have it). A few weeks ago at work we were asked to proof our personal info and degree info for an official list somewhere, and my name was spelled wrong in every single place. It drives me insane.
BUT... I do kind of like the k better. I just wish other people would figure it out!

This is my biggest concern, but then again, these days I think every kid will be asked how to spell their names due to the influx of weird/wrong spellings. So is a legit variation really that big of a deal?

This. I'm an Erika as well (Erika Lynn, in fact!). I really like how my name is spelled; I like how it looks and that it isn't the most common spelling. BUT. No one ever spells it right, including people who have known me all my life.
If you like Erik, go for it! Just be prepared to correct people all the time! There are worse problems to have

Its a good chance that any son of mine would be gorgeous and blonde, but he wouldn't be blessed in the height department lol
