Adoption

Egg Adoption

I am wondering if anyone on this board is considering an egg donor, or if you can suggest another board? tia

Re: Egg Adoption

  • Trouble TTC would be the board for you.

  • Totally try - Trouble TTC board, there is a link on the left.

Not something that we are considering, but it is a good option for a lot of people.

Basically, what it is is a couple has leftover frozen embryos from an IVF cycle and do not want to destroy them.  They are place up for adoption.  You still have to go through a home study and get chosen by the biological couple.

This of course costs a fee.  Once everything is done, you do a frozen egg transfer through a RE.

    Good luck

  • Thanks!  I will try over there.
  • As far as I know, I'm the only girl on the bump that has actually done embryo donation.  There is a difference between adoption and donation, and my honest opinion is that adoption is borderline unethical.  Donation on the other hand seems much mroe reasonable to me (obviously Wink

I'm not sure if you mean egg donation or embryo donation.  I don't know anyone who has actually used an egg donor, but I know several nesties that are in the process of a DE cycle.  You'll find them on TTTC.

If you are interested in embryo donation/adoption, then I'm your girl.  Let me know if you want to talk about it further.

  • Andrea -- I'm with you on the embryo "adoption" -- I'm not sure where that terminology came from and I wish it could just go away!  I was shocked to find out that people do that.

My RE has a wait list for embryo donation though where they match you up with someone who has had a successful transfer and wants to donate their embryos -- all they charge is the transfer fee which is so wonderful for parents who need that!

  • MrsB2007 - Wish we had the same RE!  Our RE didn't offer it, and the wait at other clinics was about 12 months.  I called about 20 clinics when we first started looking and the best seemed to be Cooper.  Miracleswaiting.com is an amazing website, I just didn't want to wait for a couple to deem us worthy.

Bethany, among other adoption agencies, offers embryo adoption and it is such a ripoff.  It's about 10k, and if it fails, you lose all of your money except for the homestudy.

All of that said, if I had embryos to give, I would go with miracleswaiting, so that I could hand pick the couple.

Sometimes I wish we could call what we did "adoption", but I feel like that is a gross misrepresentation of what we did.  We went to the Czech Republic where they had a large bank of frozen embryos.  They were able to match our features with frozen embies that were created from donor eggs and donor sperm.  Our 2nd IVF failed mid May and we were on a plane June 30th.  We weren't willing to wait the 12 mos in the US for only a 30% success rate.

I believe we were on PL for quite awhile together.  I love keeping track of you and galbraith2be here so that I can be rooting for you at each stage.  We're going to apply to adopt from Korea when this little one is 6 months old.

  • $10K??????????????????

Are you serious?  I just had to pick my jaw up off of the ground!

We're doing our own networking, we can't really afford to go through an agency (at least not until our rental sells, which is in Atlanta and has been on the market for FOUR years -- so not happening any time soon) -- but if we could, we want a Korean baby.  Soooo adorable!

  • Ohhh, we had a rental that just wouldn't sell.  It sucks.  We finally sold it on a contract for deed basis. So far it has worked out well.

  • My nephew's adoptive mother just had her second child (adopted her first-my sisters son) and she used a donor egg. I know this was very expensive, $5000 up front to the donor plus medical expenses, they used her husbands sperm & have a beautiful 6 month. With egg donation you have the ability to use your husbands sperm s it is his bioogiacl child. THey have one embryo left frozen & are currently looking into enbryo adoption to do a transfer with several frozen embryo's (the one they have & others) with hopes of they third & last child. I think its beautiful the way they have created their family. Embryo adoption is usually from families who went thru IF and IVF and now feel that their family is complete however can not bear to "waste" the exisiting embryos. I will tell her about that website.
