C-sections

classic versus horizontal incision - high risk

I have a lower lying placenta in addition to a stubborn blood vessel which is too close to my cervix. The idea of a c-section is new to me (they just told me this is what I have to get done on Thursday of this week when I am 37 weeks, because of the blood vessel). When I talked to the OB, I had no idea of what to ask about c-sections - my last child was a vaginal delivery. I just assumed the incision would be the bikini kind like all of my friends have had. But now that I'm doing research, I'm concerned it may be the classic cut. Does anybody know of how they might handle these cuts for low lying placental issues? I'll be meeting with the OB tomorrow but I am wondering how others have experienced this.

Re: classic versus horizontal incision - high risk

  • It's actually pretty rare these days for them to do a vertical incision but only your doc will be able to tell you if you will require it due to your other issues. Good luck! Don't stress about the c/s- I know it's not ideal but it's really not that terrible either!

  • I had a vertical due to being early at 24. Depending on how it looks when they go to do it they may do one. Everyone is different. I will say that the recovery time for it is difficult. I didn't walk for 5 days really. Had to have help from DH to get in and out of bed our a nurse when he wasn't there. I just took it easy and let my husband take care of me. Listen to them when it comes to recovery instructions.
