Adequate Calcium?

We just had DS's 1 year appointment.  The pedi asked how he was eating and I told her he eats well, no problems.  Asked if we were giving him WCM or if I was still BFing and I told her I was still BFing four times a day.  She asked if he is getting cheese, yogurt, etc.  I said that he will eat cheese if it is mixed in with something, but won't just eat straight cheese and we hadn't tried yogurt yet.  She said I might want to introduce other forms of dairy like yogurt to make sure he is getting enough calcium.  BM is a great source of calcium right?  Am I missing something?  Oh and my supply has been fine even before we introduced solids, DS was always around the 80% for length and weight.

  • Kellymom has some info on calcium:

About two-thirds of the way down it talks about how breastmilk has less calcium but it's more easily used by the body.

There's also a list of non-dairy calcium sources- green leafy vegetables, beans, seafood, quinoa. :)

  • I'm no expert, but are you taking a calcium supplement and eating a lot of calcium-rich foods? My doctor highly recommended a supplement.
