Anyone have a sick baby?

My 4 week poor baby is congested and is coughing till she pukes. (Way more than  looks normal for a baby) She will have up to hour long coughing fits where she just gags and coughs.
She only nurses on one side at a time, and gags on the nipple. Any help/tips?

  • Mine has a small cough right now too. I take her with me when I shower and put her in the bouncer so that she can get all the steam like a giant humidifier and we sleep with a humidifier. She's not gagging her self or anything, yet, so no advice for that. Good luck!!

Yes, coughing that bad warrants a trip to the pedi.  My 5 week old came down with RSV at 3 weeks and had coughing fits and gagged a lot.  She required medical attention and breathing treatments.  Please get her checked out.  From the way you made it sound, she needs to be seen.

ETA I just saw this was posted 10 days ago.  Any update on your LO?  Hope it was just a minor cold.

  • I have to thank this board for encouraging me to call our pediatrician. I thought it was just a cold, and then read the RSV comment above and I got a gut feeling to call. My LO is 8 weeks old. Thank you guys for posting. A quick trip (5hrs) to the ER revealed RSV. Going to the Pedi in the morning. (LO has no fever so it's not severe...) You just gotta listen to gut feelings and other mommies. :)
  • Sick baby here too :( DD has a little head cold. I took her to dr's yesterday so they could check her out and make sure there is nothing more serious. They advised I can use infant saline drops followed by the bulb aspirator to try and clear her stuffy nose. Then they also explained the various things I should be watching out for which would indicate things are getting worse. Thankfully she is doing slightly better now than she was over the weekend so I am hoping we are on the road to recovery. Hope all of your babies are feeling better also!
