How Long Does Reglan Take?

I've been on reglan for supply issues for about 2 weeks now and I'm still producing very little breast milk.  After tracking her weighted feeds and pumping we've determined on average I'm producing an average of 10 ml a breast per session, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more.  I'm wondering how long reglan takes to work and if two weeks is sufficient time to see a difference?  I was also on reglan for 8 months during my pregnancy due to hyperemesis.

Also, is there anything else I can try to increase supply a bit?  My LC said I'll probably never get a full supply to EBF but I was hoping to produce more than a bottle a day for all the effort I'm putting in.  I've already tried measures like drinking mother's milk teas, pumping with a hospital grade pump, breast compressions, etc.  Even if I could produce something like 9 oz a day, I'd be satisfied enough to continue.

The LC felt my insufficiency stems from ovarian cysts and possible pituitary problems.  I never noticed any breast changes during pregnancy (in fact I think they got smaller because I lost weight during pregnancy from hyperemesis), I never feel engorged, I don't leak, etc.  DD was treated for dehydration by IV when she was 5 days old, which was when we discovered the supply problems.  Everyone says she has a great latch and as soon as she was born, she nursed 40 minutes from each breast.  She was evaluated for a tongue and lip tie and doesn't have either so clearly the problem is totally on my side.

Thanks for your help.

Re: How Long Does Reglan Take?

  • Reglan worked quickly for me- with DD1 I started it on day 9 pp bc my milk hasn't come in. It came in the following day. This time I took it after a bout of mastitis caused my supply to tank. I think I started on a Thursday and after pumping and nursing around the clock for a coupe days, I woke e gorged on Monday. Beware of Weighted feedings- they have been way off for me.
Have you tried fenugreek? 3 pills 3-4 times a day- great stuff. Oatmeal, protein and water!!! There's other supplements too- brewers yeast, blessed thistle, flax, etc.
