TTC after 35

Back from a Break

Hi Ladies! I've taken a break from this board for a few weeks during the holidays.  We had lots of out of town company visiting and had no time to even lurk. I feel like I missed out on a lot with you all.

So, just an update on me.  I'm back to normal cycles and we are getting ready to do an IVF cycle again soon.  Only wrench my RE has thrown at me is that he thinks it may be more beneficial to consider doing PGD/PGS and doing it over two cycles so we could test a greater sampling. So basically, I would do an IVF through retrieval to gather, test and then freeze. Then cycle again to gather test and freeze.  He says it may be more cost effective and give us a better outcome as we would have a better picture of quality given there would be two cycles worth of embryos to test.  Has anyone ever done this or have advice on the matter? I have a consult appointment soon to discuss, but just wondering if anyone else has experience they can share. He's just trying to have me avoid doing my 2nd IVF have it potentially fail and then have to do 3rd round anyway.

Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive.  Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

  • I never had anything make it past day 3 to test but yes I think this is a good idea. Sadly you can have a good looking embryo but at 43 it is more likely to be abnormal. Saving yourself from another c/p or m/c is important in my opinion. I'd much rather not have a transfer than endure a 2WW with an abnormal embryo. Yes this is more expensive and takes more time but I think it is a wiser way to go..

  •  I have heard of banking in older patients or those who have fewer eggs to work with. I am starting IVF#1 and doing pgs testing so we will being doing a FET if God willing there is something to transfer at that point.  If we don't have enough to test to be cost effective ( I think RE said 3 or less) RE wants to do emergency fresh transfer.   Pgs is so expensive on top of something already crazy expensive but considering our age and my history we wanted to save some heartache of a miscarriage and give ourselves the best possible chance for a healthy pregnancy.  So many decisions!
