Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS and Clomid?

This is my first time ttc. I just turned 35 and my ob told me that if nothing happened after six months of trying to come back to talk about options. Well, it's Been 6 months and nothing yet. I have been reading a lot about PCOS and I think i have a lot of the symptoms, i also read up on Clomid a little. I am making an appointment today to see my OB and I plan on bringing these issues up. She is kind of a minimalist, in most cases is fine but I'm wondering if i should push for getting the Clomid. I'm nervous about the effects, my dh is as well. He thinks I'll turn into a crazy hormonal woman lol.

So my question is, how long did those of you with pcos wait to try Clomid and what was your experience with side effects (if any)

Re: PCOS and Clomid?

  • I am not trying to play Dr Google and I am not downplaying the seriousness of taking Clomid. What i am trying to do is educate myself a little so I don't feel like a deer in the headlights when my doctor starts spouting off Medical terms and medications. I don't have any experience with fertility treatment and I don't know anyone who has. I was hoping to get some insight from some of you who have been through it before.

  • Even if you do have PCOS, there is no way to tell if you need Clomid.  There's many woman with PCOS who end up getting pregnant with no help.  My RE had me do a cycle with no treatments to see if I was ovulating on my own and found I wasn't.  Then we moved on to clomid.  I also did the stair step (2 rounds of clomid in 1 month) to find the dosage that worked for me.  Like the others have said, there's a list of tests that need to be done before the thought of Clomid comes into play.

Regarding the Hormonal comment.  Yes you are likely to turn into a hormonal mess.  I believe I read somewhere on here that said Clomid makes you go bat shit crazy?  Well at lease I did.  When you scream at your husband for the edge of his shoe touching the carpet and then crying over it...yep that's clomid for ya.

So no i don't suggest pushing for Clomid.  Take it ONLY if you need it
