9 month appt?

Do you have a 9 month appt for LO? If so, shots or just a check up?

My doctor's office said no shots this time but made an appt for a well child visit. Not sure how I feel about bringing my well child into the waiting room of sick people when I'm sure he is just fine.

Re: 9 month appt?

  • Our appt is for the 15th. DD is scheduled for shots again and a well check visit. That's odd though. I'd call and ask them what the point is, and you'd rather not risk getting DS sick while he's waiting to see the doctor, so the doctor can see how healthy he is. :)

  • Ours also said no shots at 9 months. Our pedi office has 2 waiting rooms, one for well patients and one for sick.

Jealous! I wish ours had 2 rooms!
  • Had it yesterday..no shots this visit. Our ped has a sick side and well care side
  • I am praying my kids don't get sick! I scheduled my DD's 9 mth and DS's 3 year for the same time. I'm pretty sure no shots for 9 mth but not sure about 3 year.

I wish we had a sick side and a well side. Jealous!

  • No shots at 9 months unless you are on a different schedule or got behind on something. My NP does a 9 month well check though.
@Lhyacinth888 I believe the next set of shots for preschool age is at 4, at least it is up here.

  • I wonder why DD is scheduled for shots....off to find out more info....

The only way your doctor is going to pick up health problems is if he/she physically examines your child. I've picked up lots of subtle exam findings and concerning developmental issues at 9-month visits. Worth it, even if you think your kid is perfectly healthy... in my completely biased opinion

Okay I was being sarcastic...... I always have and always will take DD to her appts regardless
  • Our 9 month is Jan 28th and he will not have shots. His 12 month is the next set of shots.

Could it be you guys got off schedule somehow? DS had his 6 month shots at 8 months because we got in a bit late for his 4 month shots (we moved right around that time) and there has to be a certain amount of time between some shots. That and there is only one day a week at our office that you can book in for shots, makes scheduling difficult sometimes.

  • Why not just bring your kid to the Dr. when you're supposed to bring them to the Dr.? Obviously trained medical professionals have determined that 9 months is a good time to bring your child in.

  • I just called the pediatrician. She's up to dateon her shots. And no shots at 9 months.i obviously misunderstood. :-S
  • The only shot will be the flu booster. She got the first but never got her back in for the booster.

  • No shots. We had a developmental survey to fill out plus the basic wellness check.

Am I the only one who's baby is in daycare and is constantly swapping spit with other babies? Sitting in the waiting room at the dr's office, I can at least control whether or not we sit next to someone who might be coughing, etc.

Not in daycare, but she has a 3 yo sister in preschool who is perfectly happy to share germs.

  • My bad... too sleep deprived to pick up sarcasm! PS I freaking hate bringing LO in for well-child visits for the same reason... the waiting rooms are sooooo germy!!!

  • We have a few shots here since they had a national shortage of two of the shots apparently. Hep B and something else. He couldn't get them last time because one was replaced with the flu shot and the doctor only gives four vaccinations per visit.

  • Thanks for the info. For more clarity, DH brought DS in for his last appointment and didn't schedule the 9 month one. When I was in myself, I asked if DS should have one, and they said it was optional, no shots, then scheduled one. We do the ASQ through the mail and he is great developmentally. We've also been in a couple times since his 6 month appt for various illnesses. We don't have a well child waiting room - in fact, our waiting room is for kids and women, since the OB/GYN and Peds are in the same spot. Those are the reasons I was thinking of cancelling.

I will go with @skidderdo's advice though, and take him in. :) Maybe we will just stand on the side and not go near anyone in the waiting room!

  • The next set of shots for us is at 12 months, but our doctor likes to see them every month for well-baby check-ups. I haven't scheduled it yet, but they are usually pretty flexible, so I should be able to get in next week around when he turns 9 months.

  • We just went today. hep b shot and hemoglobin test. we talked development, and they are delayed on gross motor skills. doctor wanted to send them to pt, but we talked more and she decided to hold off the recommendation. they were a month early and truthfully, this momma hasn't been working much with them since the two yo takes up so much of my attention.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
