Back to "normal"

Finally the holiday craziness and first birthday craziness is over and everything is back to "normal". That is if normal means meds, u/s's, blood work etc......

While we were on our "holiday" break, I called the RE's office to make sure IUI wasn't a waste of our time. Doc says no, so I waited and waited and frickin waited for AF to start so I could start another medicated IUI cycle. Damn!!! it was a 49 day cycle and had to be jump started with provera. Then I find out that even though the doc said it wasn't a waste of time he wanted me to do injectables instead of femara. Ok I am thinking, our insurance has decent coverage and our part is 50% (ps that is only for iui procedures. For IVF we are OOP). There is a mix up with the insurance so I am not able to get meds in time, so the RE's nurse calls and says I have samples for you until we can get it sorted out. (I told MH this is why we donated our unused meds after our IVF for this reason)

Ugh, the insurance calls today. Our copay for the meds are $750!!! I said "I'm sorry can you repeat that first number?" So we will not do any more IUI's after this one and go straight to a FET next cycle (hoping to get pg instead).

It makes me so nervous to use the rest of our embryos. We have 3 frozen, and the RE said we will unthaw them all!!

Re: Back to "normal"

  • Ugh! That is brutal. I am constantly complaining about insurance coverage (Thank you fucking Obamacare) everyone's premiums went up, coverage went down, deductibles are through the roof, so even if you HAVE the coverage it doesn't make a big difference anymore anyway.

I will be keeping my FX that this IUI will be it for you!!

  • Thanks!! We have good insurance (minus the IF stuff) but we pay a shit ton for it. It cracked me up that I had to pay 20k to get pregnant, but my delivery bill was $400!

  • Fingers crossed for you! I hope this IUI works for you!! I wish I had better insurance - all IF treatment is OOP for us, ugh! I am the primary breadwinner so I feel like all of the pressure is on me. I get an annual bonus in march every year and we are counting on that to pay for stuff.
  • Good Luck! I have everything crossed for you that this IUI works! I am 100% OOP so I know what its like to get those phone calls with large amounts.

  • Oh man, the cost of everything is so depressing.  It's largely why I like the holistic route.  But I HATE waiting for the herbal teas to work!  I envy that you're actually getting to DO something.  I hope it works out for you this cycle and that you don't even have to think about what to do next.

Thanks ladies. I have had the same insurance for the last fee years, but my RE's office just starting taking it. We are/were 100% OOP for anything IVF related. @Jeffreysmom24 do you work retail? Sounds a lot like my annual bonus. :) I'm excited also to start acupuncture back up. First appt tomorrow.

Hey Chrissynena, I am a lawyer - I work for a company that did multiple rounds of layoffs last year so I am just hoping there is some miracle that I get a decent bonus! DH is already stressing about the cost of everything and like I said, the pressure is really on me to get a good bonus to pay for it all! :(
