TTC #1

Hello all...I am in need of some advice here...
I went to my PCP this past weekend and talked to her about TTC and coming off my BCP.  The dr asked me when my annual was coming up for a pap and I informed her that I have an appt in Feb.  She then informed me that she could do a full gynecological exam at her office.  Has anyone else had this before?  I just changed drs being that I have my husbands insurance.  Being that DH and I are going to be TTC #1 at the end of the month (hopefully will conceive at this time) would it be better to see the ob/gyn for my annual so I can get established with her or is it okay to have my PCP do this?
Also, being that this is my first time with all this...does anyone have any suggestions for TTC?

Thanks!!

Re: TTC #1

  • You can get your pcp to do your annual check up and gyn exam its a good idea. Then once you are preggers talk to your PCP about a obgyn recommendation - or do the research on your own -  make sure you are comfortable with that person. A lot of people don't even go for a pre-conception check up and contact their PCP once they have conceived. I personally went for a pre-conception check up and my dr recommended taking folic acid for 3 months prior to TTC. I also heard a suggested taking a multi vitamin with folic acid for 3 months prior to ttc so that was the route i took. However, its probably good to talk to your PCP at your appointment and bring any questions you may have. Everyone's situation and medical history is different so its best to get the right advice from your doctor. But I dont think you have to go directly to an OBGYN at this time. Just my opinion, hopefully you will get a few opinions. Just ask questions and be comfortable with your provider.

  • I'm not sure if I can answer your first question. As for TTC, download the Fertility Friend app on your phone if you haven't already (or use fertilityfriend.com). Get a BBT thermometer and start tracking your BBT (I got one off Amazon for like $6). You may want to start checking your CM also.
