burping

I feel like it's getting harder and harder to burp my lo. At the beginning I just picked him up our moved him a little and it would just come out itself. But now it takes forever and i have to try about 10 different positions and even then it's not gauranteed to come out. I have to use gas drops to help get it out. It gets super frustrating especially at night when feeding and burping ends up taking an hour and a half. If I don't get the burps out he wont fall back to sleep and he will scream for hours later that day. Anyone else having a hard time with burping? Any tips or tricks?

Re: burping

  • It's always been tough to get burps out of my girly. Usually sitting her on my lap slouchy over works best but not always. If it's taking really long I change her diper or something and usually by the time I'm done and pick her up it usually comes out. Are you bottle feeding? Maybe switch bottles.

  • No I'm bf'ing but he always has to burp after feeding.
  • I pat her and\or rub her for a few minutes.  If nothing comes out and I don't hear any obvious air bubbles working around in her gut, I give up and let her be.  Also, I count spitting up as good as burping.

She does fart, but it really, really doesn't seem to bother her.  She doesn't squirm or cry in pain.  Most of her farts are in her sleep.

  • Yea, I think patience is the way to go and maybe some leg circles. DD is very difficult to burp too and miserable about the whole thing. She woke up twice lady night screaming because she had to fart :(

  • First the shoulder, then sitting on lap slightly slouching over my arm and the last would be laying LO across my lap.
I always rub in circles and then pat his back from the bottom upward.
Also, I stop mid feeding (I don't switch boobs while doing this) and burp him.
Try to even burp him during the day when your not feeding LO.
But yes it has become more difficult and it takes longer now.

We do this, the sitting on my lap hunched over burp and if that doesn't work I put him on the changing table with a warm washcloth and usually when I pick him back up it will come out.  With our LO we have to get the burp out or else it is a guaranteed choking episode with the spit up :/
  • I am BF and need to burp my LO every time we switch breast.  She hates it!  And, yes it takes a while to burp her.  My DH is actually better at getting the burps out of her than I am.  He picks her up and does the "choo-choo" train ride.  He basically walks around the house and gently bounces her.  It works every time.  I must admit, I am too impatient to sit there and try to get every burp out.

Yeah, I'm a lazy burper too.  I mostly just sit her up and thump her and rub upward along her back, and will put her over my shoulder if that's not working.  If that doesn't make her burp, and she seems okay, I'll put her back down or back on the boob.

Sometimes I have more success making myself burp doing this than her.  :P

This is exactly me too! Even the part about having more success getting a burp out of myself. I do need more patience with it, even though LO is fine most of the time if he doesn't get the air out immediately. Bouncing gently while patting his back works well.

  • Do and my dad have better luck burping lo than me or my mom. Maybe it's the lack of boobs... It drives me nuts. Also I always end up burping even if ds doesn't
