Breastfeeding

Heavy let down.. Help!!

I'm new to breastfeeding, LO will be 2months on the 11th. I have as heavy let down, he let's go and starts screaming. How do you help with something like this? I ebf with the occasional once in a blue moon bottle. Should I pump, then pump through a let down? Then let him eat at the breast? Or do I need to give up and just pump? I really want to continue to EBF.. TIA for the help!

  • A couple things to do. Let baby trigger letdown and the pop them off and let it spray into a towel, when it slows relatch. Nurse while reclining back so baby has to suck against gravity.
This.  When that didn't work for me I did pump for a couple minutes before each feeding then latch. I tried to do it minimal though. LO will eventually be able to keep up.

  • LO doesn't like the football hold, he gets 6 different kinds of mad. He will nurse and let go and it will literally shoot out like a fire hose. Tonight I just pumped & got 5oz and about an hour later he nursed and was ok. I'm just afraid if I keep pumping like that my body will kick into over drive, and produce way more milk then I'll need.

  • And it's hard when he pops off bc he screams like someone just broke his heart till he latches back on. He's a little oinker..

  • Just pump an ounce and let him feed. I was having an issue where Callie was sucking down the fore milk too much. Like you I get a good bit (only in the morning) but that's what I did was pump an ounce first and I was good to go.

This. Ds hates lying back, hut i unlatch him when i feel letdown; it only takes a.moment and then we're back at it. I try to have a pacifier on hand do he doesn't get upset, too.

This is what I do. I have tried pumping but it's too much work to do at every feed. It's important not to wait until LO is starving to feed him/her b/c then they get too impatient to wait for the flow to slow down.

The good news is that eventually LO will catch up with the glow and you will only have to nurse for a few minutes as opposed to 15-20 minutes like most women. Sooo gradually your heavy/fast letdown will be your friend :)
